Thanks! I've seen two for 25% off (State Farm and Fidelity), but this is better. SF and F have "visitor links". The BoA links says for customers. Will it work for others?
I'm probably in the minority, but I do my taxes on paper by myself. I can use a 1040A, so it's incredibly easy. Been doing it this way for at least five years, before that I used turbo tax. Anyway, I've learned a lot doing my own taxes, and find it somewhat enjoyable. LOL!
We use Turbo Tax, but I always use the CD version. I just don't feel comfortable with some of the online versions. Way too much financial information stored in one place!
How does it work if you have to file taxes in more than one state? We live in Kansas, but dh works in Missouri. Would we have to buy multiple versions of turbo tax?
True, but it is being submitted to a government computer, not XYZ.com. I do not trust the government 100%, but I trust corporations even less. Also, the actual submission to the IRS is encrypted, which is why you need to specify a password when you do the submission.
I also only submit my federal taxes electronically, and that's only if it is included. I refuse to pay $ to electronically submit my taxes when submitting taxes electronically is a convenience to the government. I'm generally not in that big of a hurry to get my return.

See, I think efile is also a convenience to me. I get a response back saying they've received the filing (you don't get that with 'basic' mail), and it's also quicker (although you say that doesn't matter to you). Second... who exactly is charging the efile fee? Is it the government or the program makers? Something tells me it's the program makers (Intuit, H&R Block, etc).

Yes, it is a convenience to the filer, and I would be willing to pay a nominal fee, but $30 (I think that's what it is for state) is not a nominal fee. Federal eFile is usually included with the price of the software.

I used to do our taxes for years (including when we itemized and even when my husband had a landscape business on the side). I didn't mind it and was pretty good at finding the best way (legally) to get the most back.
After I decided to try TurboTax, I never looked back. As sam_gordon said, the efile is a convenience to me. I like the response letting me know that it has been received and accepted, and I like that it's quicker.
If I had to pay their regular fee, I would probably go back to pen and paper, but as long as I can get the 35% off, I'll stick with it as is.

I agree we're getting ripped off on the efile fee... but again, that's the software vendor (I think) not the government. That's why I'm looking at different options.
It appears taxslayer.com and taxact.com are both <$20 to prepare and file. Big difference to the $60 TurboTax & H&R Block on charging for the same thing.
