So what sport do you think has the toughest athletes. This could be tough as in strong or tough as in heart and desire ie: Steve Begin or Joe Thorton playing in the playoffs with injuries Thorton had torn cartalidge in the rib cage area and Steve Begin lost 4 teeth and had 35 stitches in his mouth from a collision in game 5 and he came back out in the 3rd period to finnish the game.

I work with alot of hs and college athletes and I'm going to pick sports that aren't there.
Wrestling, distance running, lacrosse and for women field hockey.

My husband played rugby in his younger days, I think this is the roughest sport I've ever witnessed. I never could stand to see him play.

I should have added a few more sport to the list like soccer and rugby sorry about that.

Rugby was the first thing that came to my mind when I saw your post. However, of the choices given I think hockey surpasses the others. Not only is there so much contact but the players don't get much of a break between games. Often it's less than a day. It is amazing during the playoffs what these players will endure. If there's a way for them to get onto the ice they will. Even if it means having one eye sewn shut and dragging an IV pole behind them ;) .

Have you ever spent time with a cheerleading squad? Those girls are tough. :D

I'd have to the Iron Man Triathalon is one of the toughest.

Triathlon:D

Ironman Distance=2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike followed by a 26.2 mile run. (and some of them don't even stop to go to the bathroom):teeth:

   I'd hate to be racing behind those folks!!

I have to agree with triathalon, lol! :) I also think biking, and of course swimming.

Look at how tough Lance Armstrong must be, both mentally and physically. He's incredible.:D

I picked swimming because I'm a swimmer, of course.:D ;)

Of the choices listed I pick Hockey playes baseball and basketball players are to sucky they get a blister or hangnail and have to be put on the DL football is good but not up to the level of hockey players. Hockey players play through broken bones and cuts that get stitched up right on the bench to try and make it out for the next shift.

CHESS ... I always say too much thinking will rot the brain eventually! :teeth:

but really... I think rugby would be brutal. No padding, no protection!

Soccer would be number 2, just because the fans are rowdier than the players!:hyper:

I'm also going to go with Rugby; although I may be prejudiced from my playing days, where we had 5 ambulance calls to one game, mostly knocked out people, but there was one dislocated shoulder.
