What snacks carry well throughout the day?

I am going to have the kids use a waist pouch to carry their snacks...what can I pack that will make it with the heat, and movement?
We have tried fruit snacks, those melted... my kids are teenagers, so no use of a stroller...

We take nuts (sunflower seeds, peanuts, cashews). We also take dried fruit. That works well!

Have you asked your kids about it? I know my kids would go hungry rather than wear a waist pouch to WDW.

If they are OK with the waist pouch, than ask them what they like and go from there. I know that we have taken things like goldfish, trail mix and water bottles. They don't like pretzels but I would think they would travel well.

Nature Valley Oats n Honey granola bars - yum! I've also just discovered fruit & fiber bars by Odwalla that are delish, even DD7 loves them. My fave is the pomegranate and strawberry.

Pretzel sticks and dried or dehydrated fruit would work well too.

We make our own 'trail mix'...some cheerios, assorted nuts, dried fruit, small pretzel sticks, maybe a few m&ms. Each kids makes theirs according to their likes and dislikes. Put them in small ziploc type plastic bags, and the kids carry their own.

Works great for any kids that have allergies...you can customized each childs mix. I have one kid that loves salty snacks and one that loves sweet snacks. This way we mix their own individual snacks, mark the bags accordingly and they keep in fanny packs or back packs until they are needed.

You can buy chips and different types of cookies in the little white plastic containers to keep them from breaking up.

We carried our snacks in little plastic containers and ziploc bags in a backpack. We had carrots, apples, nuts/seeds, fruit leather/dried fruit, pretzels, and pbj sandwiches (I cut them with a dinosaur shaped cutter and used whole wheat bread, so they actually didn't get too smooshed/soggy).

Also, we used hydration backpacks. Your kids might prefer those (not sure if you were going to carry water bottles or buy drinks in the parks), plus the ice water will keep your snacks cool throughout the day.

Goldfish crackers, Cheez-Its, pretzels, Teddy Grahams. All travel well!

We bring a back pack with us so we do fruit leathers, granola bars (my kids love the Fiber One bars), cereal bars, home made trail mix with nuts, corn chex, raisins, dried blueberries and cherries, sometimes small packages of bagel chips or pretzel chips or popcorn. We also bring the individual drink mixes to add to bottled water - we refill at the parks and sometimes don't want to wait for CS water so we use drinking fountains which can have a certain flavor. :)

My 11 yr old DS and 2 1/2 yr twin DS's like the pretzels & cheese or crackers & cheese snacks - those travel well. We also do our own 'trail mix'. Granola bars that are low in sugar, Smucker's PBJ sandwiches from the freezer section (if you read the label, they need to defrost for like 4 hrs or something, so I put them in the refrig the night before, but depending on the heat, they may defrost quicker so you can toss them right from the freezer into a platic tupperware type container if you're worried about them getting crushed). Pretzels do well, and so does dried fruit. Costco sells some dried fruit snacks that we like - dried apples and pears - and they come in their own individual bags. The cheese & cracker type sandwich crackers work out okay for us too. Odwalla bars are great. This time around I'll be taking some protein bars with us for myself - I had RNY gastric bypass so I'm limited as to what I can eat (but have lost 90 lbs in 5 mos).

Good Luck!

The most popular snacks when we took the high schoolers were:

Combos
Poptarts
Apples
Trail Mix
All of these held up well in bags though the day and heat, and piggy-back carrying silliness.

The first two were satisfying enough that only a couple snacks, breakfast and a very late supper filled up HUGE athletic boys who I personally knew ate all day long while at school. We bought cracker packs, but they went uneaten even in hunger desperation.:confused3

Don't forget the souvenier buckets of popcorn that are under $5.

Take no uncoated chocolate. It melts and smears. Take no homemade cookies into the park. They crumble. Brownies worked ok as the kids smooshed them together into a big glop and ate them that way.

Hope that helps! :goodvibes

Last time we discovered our favorite: Bagelfuls. We popped them in frozen and by afternoon they were perfect.
