What size memory card will I need?

What size memory card will I need to take about 500 pictures? I have a 1 GB (maybe 2GB, I have to check) and I don't think that's enough to do the job. Any help would be appreciated.

that varies camera to camera and depending on whether you shoot raw/jpeg/fine, standard..etc..

your manual should have your answer..or when you turn the camera on, does the display give you a countdown of number of pics....???

I don't remember seeing a countdown number of pics. I'm going to check when I get home. I'm new to the digital camera thing so I will have to play around with the settings to get jpeg/fine pics. The last time I read my manual I couldn't find any info on this.

Simple question, complex answer. Depends of course on the megapixel rating of your camera, your file format (RAW, jpeg, etc), and the image quality selected.

I found a neat chart to help with this basic calculation. Simply click on the appropriate megapixel rating and you will see the file size (assuming maximum quality is selected) and number of images that will fit on various capacity memory cards.
