So... I know I want to buy DD5 (6 in Feb) a dollhouse for Christmas. I am torn on whether to get her a doll-house people sized dollhouse or the bigger Barbie sized dollhouse. She is the youngest, so there will also be a 8 year old sister and 7 year old brother to play too!
They have a TON of barbies, plus both girls want Monster High dolls for Christmas, so I am leaning towards the Barbie sized. If I get the Barbie one, it will be a wooden one, since the plastic Barbie houses are way too pink and a little too flimsy.
*But* I also remember how much I loved our small dollhouse when we were little. It was the perfect size to play with my mom's Star Wars toys!!

I have such fond memories of my small doll house growing up. They got soooo much play time. We had barbies and they certainly got played with but they never had their own house. My MIL got my DS19 a doll house when he was about three. I thought, yea right....dust collector. It was one of his most favorite toys ever and was played with for years!

No real help...just memories!

It's hard to say. My DD had the Fisher Price My First Dollhouse when she was 2,3,4 years old and played with it EVERY day! She loved it! So, when she turned 5, I wanted to upgrade to an "older" dollhouse and purchased the Fisher Price Loving Family set. Family members went crazy getting her all the furniture pieces. Unfortunately, she never really took to it. It sat in the corner until a friend came over and was interested in playing with it. It is down in the basement now. But... instead she was really into her Barbies and Princess dolls. She is 7 and still loves them. We have not purchased a Barbie sized dollhouse, but she would probably like one. I'm debating over this now for Christmas. I saw a nice wooden one at Toys R' Us.

We bought DD a wooden "barbie" size dollhouse 4 years ago from Target and it has been one of the best presents ever. It has held up extremely well and she still plays with it, sometimes with barbies, dolls, stuffed animals, etc. I even see my DS (7) go in there and play (I mean destroy:goodvibes) with the house...although its usually with his Star Wars figures:lmao:

I think it really depends on the kids. My girls 7 and 11 were never interested in Barbie dolls. My oldest got a loving family dollhouse at 4 and now still plays with it along with her sister except that we have two houses now so they can each have their own house. Over the years we have gotten lots of accessories and a lot of their enjoyment is taking turns picking parts for their homes.

DD7 got the Loving Family one for her third birthday. She has received lots of furniture for it over the years. She has played with it lots and still does.

Last year Santa brought my dd (4 at the time) a Kidkraft dollhouse. It took 3 hours to put together but it's solid. I would definitely recommend it! She has played with it daily and so has my 9 year old.

We found hers at Costco but they have them on amazon too.

We have the same one. Got it when DD was 4, she's 7 now and still plays with it all the time. Definitely a good investment. It's well made too.

We bought my daughter the KidKraft Savannah doll house for her 5th birthday and she loves it. She plays with it almost every day and it came with a lot of furniture. We have now had it for a year and a half and it still looks as good as new. The assembly takes a little time, but it is well worth it.

She plays with her Barbies in it, as well as some of her smaller dolls.

You can find it on Amazon, at Kohls, com, and Target.com (which along with Walmart.com seems to have the best price at $99.99).

I bought my daughter (3) the loving family dollhouse last year for Christmas. She enjoys it now, but I do think it is something she will outgrow withing the next couple of years. We will probably have to replace it with a barbie sized house.

OP here! Thanks for he suggestion! I think the debate might be over. She saw a commercial last night for the Disney Princess Dream house and FLIPPED! Loves it!

My dd7 got the Loving Family Dollhouse 3 years ago and still plays with it several times a week (or least scatters the pieces all over her room). I'm sure she would love the big Barbie house as well but our house doesn't have room for it. The Loving Family house folds closes up and stores in a small space.
