What site to order prints?

What is the best site for ordering my prints on-line? I know that this is a question that everyone in the world probably knows the answer to, but I have always just gone to Wal-mart.

i got a really nice 11x14 from shutterfly and an ok 8x10 from walgreens( both email deals,shutterfly i had to pay for shipping ,walgreens i picked it up and it was .either free or.99 can't remember now...) i've used snapfish a lot but never got any larger than 5x7 there

sometimes they have an introductory deal if you sign up for their newsletters/email and you can get them cheap or for free then can try a number out (for cheap or free) and not lose a lot if they aren't good

define best....


some people define best as the best price with good prints.

others define best as the best quality prints. regardless of price...

this topic has come up numerous times, you will get a variety of answers,


test after test done by independent groups have more often than not, listed mpix as the best online printing service, they are a little more expensive than other places..

I use them for my serious stuff, and fotki for 4x6's for giveaway purposes..

I store my photos at fotki, and therefore can get 4x6's for 9 cents a piece...

I use Costco.com for mine. Smugmug for more serious orders.

I find that Sam's Club, at $0.14 a pop, one hour, does a fine job on 4X6's.

For personal prints smaller than 8x10 I use Costco, for business (any size) I use Mpix. Their black and white prints are amazing.

I forgot to mention that I highly recommend that everyone try the metallic paper at MPIX it's awesome..

I use Mpix for anything "important," but I've had a hard time lately deciding exactly what constitutes "important" (would that be all my vacation photos, or just the ones I really like?) The colors in their prints are far better, especially skin tones. For other stuff, I've used Kodakgallery, Shutterfly and Costco with varying results, but I've been satisfied with all of them for the most part.

I recently had several of the same images printed by both Mpix and Costco (I had the auto-correction turned off on both). The color reproduction was pretty accurate on the Costco prints, but the Mpix versions looked much more vibrant with details appearing much sharper. The difference is striking. Of course, some Costcos may do a better job than ours.

MPIX has a special Kodak Professional Metallic paper, it is more tear resistant than other photo paper and gives prints a really different kind of look, can't really describe it, but everyone I show pictures to, asks what type of paper was used...
