What site is your "go-to" site for cheap rates and such at hotels? I used to use escape2orlando.com a few years ago. However, this site got me turned to hotelkingdom.com. Now I always check them first.

hi
easyclicktravel.com. always have good rates for orlando. priceline for the coastal hotels. ::MickeyMo ::MickeyMo ::MickeyMo

http://www.hotwire.com/ I have ALWAYS found a great rate for hotels using Hotwire. You do not know the hotel until you book the reservation, however using the star rating, location and ammenities that they list you can usually get a good quality hotel at a very good price. We stayed at the Peabody in Orlando for $90, Wyndham at DTD for $75, the former Marriott at DTD for $25. I look for a four star hotel with the best rate and have usually been very happy.
They are also a good site for rental cars. A midsize car is a midsize car no matter who you rent from and Hotwire usually has exceptional rates and only use nationally recognized companies like Hertz or Avis.

I thought I would serve up some information to folks concerning booking with Hotwire.

1. You can't get a refund or change a reservation once your purchase is complete.

2. The hotel name and street location will be shown only after you book. Location in Orlando can be very important for a trip. I prefer not throwing darts to get a location.

3. Hotwire works to ensure that the amenities shown are available, they cannot guarantee they will all be in service during your stay. Not what I would like to hear.

4. Some hotels may apply additional charges that are not included in your Hotwire rates - such as parking, convention or resort fees. You will be required to pay any such fees directly to the hotel (usually at check-out time). Once you book such a reservation, they recommend contacting your hotel to ask about any additional charges. (Now mind you if there are any extra charges first you can't get out of the booking, and second you are stuck paying these extra fees.)

5. ALL BOOKINGS ARE FINAL and cannot be cancelled, refunded, changed, exchanged or transferred. This one I hate the most.

6. They actually charge you the full amount at time of booking. Which means they get to use your money the whole time, instead of just holding a deposit or credit card guarantee. Not only do you get to pay your credit card company interest on the charge but you don't get to collect the interest you could be earning on that money as well.

So there are times that if you add up everything, what looks like a good deal actually is costing you the same or more money and you lose the money if you need to cancel the reservation.

I prefer knowing my hotel I am staying in and knowing all my costs up front. I also like being able to change or cancel a reservation. It is just better knowing if a situation comes up everything is not lost.

Is there something going on Jan. 21-28???? The rates on these "discount" sites are horrible for those dates....$264 per NIGHT for the Swan and Dolphin?

What am I missing here?

Dawn

Hi DawnM, January is a very busy time for hotels in the Orlando Area. Most times when you find high pricing it is because the hotel has a convention.

January is shapping up to be very busy for conventions and is the reason on the high pricing. The hotel must not go below the rate established on the contract with the convention that is booked there.

Just a note I am showing pricing through Dreams Unlimited Travel to be $229.00 for the Dolphin Hotel for all those dates and at the Swan to be the same except that the night of January 24 is sold out and the night of January 27 to be $389.00.

Here is the link to follow to make the booking.

Thanks for clearing that up. I was worried that there was some vacation time I was missing. Thanks for the link, but I have no intention of spending $229 per night.

Thanks,

Dawn

Just to warn you - make sure to double check the hotel's own website before you book anywhere else. A lot of hotels, like Marriot and Days Inn, have a Best Rate Guarentee, and if you find a better rate somewhere else, they'll match it and sometimes even make it 10% lower.
