My DW finally got a pair of Made with Magic Minnie ears and I was wondering if they sync with Paint the Night or if they will work with the new/old "Remember... Dreams Come True" fireworks show. Is there a definitive list or site that says what shows/places in the park they work with? Also, Im interested in learning how they work in general? Is it bluetooth or sound recognition or IR? Any info is appreciated!

I haven't seen a definitive/official list, but I know they're supposed to sync with World of Color and Paint the Night. I had read that they use IR (infrared transmitter).

I got to be at a presentation with the designer of the system.

It is indeed IR, but not as simple as just sending a color command. They are GPS based time synced IR commands to essentially send macro commands to the ears to engage at a specific time which is why no one has been abel to effectively hack them yet...it is pretty impressive technology. There are zone emitters all over the place, including all the rides with a shutoff command. The IR transmitters are essentially about 2" diameter by 10" long cylindrical emitters...if you know where to look you will easily spot them on the towers.

Biggest problem with the whole concept is that you are putting on a show for everyone else and the actual wearer is not able to see and enjoy the effect. They had MASSIVE plans for the technology but it never caught fire like they were hoping for that reason.

WOC, Fireworks, Fantasmic, PTN...and even just walking down main street they will run effects at times...like blue and white for Christmas.

My DD wanted a pair of the MwM ears, but I didn't want to pay $28 for them. But the anniversary ones showed up at our Disney Store Outlet at half price, so I got them for her. Only problem is that I'm probably going to have to carry them around with me most of the time.

That's neat; I've seen the ears work with the shows (I don't recall any syncing for Fantasy in the Sky, but definitely with Disneyland: Forever), but I haven't had much luck with any of the non-show areas. The ears used to also work with Mad T Party...it was fun watching the entire kiosk of hats respond to the show.

If you do opt to get one of the Made with Magic ears/gloves/bow, I would also consider getting the Paint Brush or Sorcerer's Wand so that you can control the colors of your item(s) outside of the parks.

This is the biggest problem I have with the MWM ears. Had to buy one for my significant other so we could both enjoy it.

They should really try and implement the technology into more merchandise just as a full light up lanyard or bag.

I would hold my MwM ears just so I could see the effect! I do wish more people had them on in the park. Disney should have a special for them; like buy one get one half off, or buy a 3 Day Hopper Pass get a MwM ear for free!

Wishful thinking,

They tried offering premium seating for F! and a dedicated area for fireworks. The 2 times I did F! we were alone there. For fireworks people were buying the ears and returning them after the show.

I have the paintbrush now. It's a lot easier to carry and hold. It syncs with WOC, Flo's and Cozy Cones. Plus you can select your color with the palate button. The effects with the current fireworks show are minimal. The fireworks show where MwM is used the most is Christmas, but even that is minimal. Mostly it stays blue as long as you're on Main St during the snow after the show. The original WOC probably has the most effects of anything. But for all of the shows, there are points where multiple ears/items play off each other, so if you're holding a single item or there aren't a lot of items in the area you might not see some of the effects.

Thanks everyone, I have a much better idea now. Hopefully they add more features in the future!
