What should you take with you?

what should you bring with you to the apartments? Do you know who your roomates are ahead of time? (I ask bc you could bring the same thing as your roomate). I lived at home all through my undergrad years...so I don't know what people typically take with them to college like apartments. I have an idea...but I don't want to bring too much down. And can you request where you live? Like..can I request to live in Patterson? Or is it luck of the draw type of thing? If you can request what are the chances you'll get what you request? I know they will probably "do their best to accomadate" but is it likely that you'll live where you request or not?

You can request where you live and they do there best. Usually they ask where you want to live and how many roommates you want. I requested Vista and ended up with three other roommates (a two bedroom). I havent really heard of anyone getting denied their apartment request (you might get the complex you want but a different number of roommates).

As far as what to bring thats up to you. Also there is the option to find out who one of your roommates is ahead of time now but thats all. So its better to bring what you want so that way you end up with everything you need. I wouldnt rely on other people because you might not like them or get along do its better to be prepared.

does the new complex, patterson have four bedrooms? or three? Four bedrooms give you seven roomates, right? Are the apartments bigger for four bedrooms? I'm assuming in ways they are...but I'm talking about the kitchen/living room area..do they make those a little bigger since more people are living there?

When I did my CP in 06 Patterson wasn't built yet so I have no advice on that. However I did live in both Vista and Chattam and those were too very different experiences. I will say I met a lot more people in Vista but those apartments are crappy. Chattam was really nice. I lived in both a one bedroom and a two bedroom there. The apartments are larger depending on the number of rooms but depending on how your people skills are you may or may not want a lot of roommates.

I will agree that you should bring all the things you need and not depend on what the other girls might bring. Don't be surprised if you go through a few roommates because wiith that many people in an apartment comflits are bound to happen. That being said...my last set of roommates in Chattam were awesome and we are all still really good friends. I'd say leave it to chance because chances are you'll end up with some really great people. At least maybe 3 out of 4 including yourself wouldn't be bad...lol

thanks for all of the advice on selecting a complex and roomates! This thread is exactly what I need now that I'm getting serious about moving! (Arriving August 25th!!!!:scared: )

I am a little nervous about the roomate thing...I think I'd prefer 1 bedroom certainly no more than two....but I'd rather be in patterson or chatham. I just worried that on my late arrival date I"ll be first in line and they'll say "Sorry all that's left at this point is 4 bedroom in vista, here's your keys." :scared1:

Also, I've met some very nice people in our arrival facebook group, but I'm not sure if I should commit to a roomate or leave it to chance like you sugguested. My college friends said leave it to chance...I've commuted from home to college so the whole apartment/roomate thing is going to be new to me!!!!

Also, are there any items that we should pack that you wouldn't think of needing to pack..like hangers or cable splitters??? I suppose everything you need is a WalMart trip away...

Thanks so much!!!!

First off relax, lol its not that stressful. I would say that you probably get either Chatham or Patterson. However, you really cant be that picky about room numbers. For example Vista doesnt have a one bedroom or a four bedroom. You might be able to get a two bedroom in Vista but only a four bedroom in Chatham. Really there not going to give you too many options basically its we have room in Chatham heres your key.

Honestly its not that bad and you can always move. I have been in a one bedroom all the way to a four and i liked the two best. My friend lived in a one bedroom and it was tiny. In a two bedroom both bedrooms have their own bathroom which was nice not so in the other ones. Four bedroom is bigger than the rest but there is also a lot more people. Overall you will adjust just have an open mind.

When I went there was no roommate notfication and i didnt mind leaving it to chance. I want to go back this coming spring and i plan to not pick a roommate in advance. YOu have better chance of getting the complex and bedroom number if you go solo since you wont have to worry about accomadating another person.

Lastly if you can bring hangers. I went to the walmart and there were completely picked over since everyone was moving it. Luckily my parents had a car so we went to another store. Also if you can bring cable splitter and an ethernet cord. Just anything really to make your life easier. I mean yes you can always buy it later but the more prepared you are the easier the move in process is. Good luck and remember to have fun.

Thanks for your advice! Yes, I think I just need to breathe :upsidedow ...and concentrate on having fun!
