We are moving and the kids are going to start a new school in the fall. We planned a trip for the beginning of Sept. back when we weren't sure if we were moving or not. Now we have 3 options.

1. Go on the vacation and have the kids miss the first 2 half days at a new school?

2. Go on the vacation but cut it short by 3 days and pay extra money to rearrange our plane tickets?

3. Cancel all together and save whatever the % of points we can and go another time?

I'm so sad. I really want to go and with moving I really, really need a stress buster.

HELP!!!!!!

TIA

I would think missing the begining of school at a new school would be getting off on the wrong foot for the kids to establish in a new place. I'd probably shorten the vacation or cancel.

Can you bump your dates up? Planning is so hard sometimes-for airlines I like Southwest because there is no penalty for changing reservations (you get a credit). It's a tough decision-I think the first couple days at school are when kids have the best chance to get adjusted to a new class etc...but it also depends on what each school plans for those days. Good luck :)

Coming from a mom who has no problem pulling her kids out of school I would change the trip.

Personally I would see if I could move it into August.

Given that it's a new school, my own personal opinion is that it would be better for the kids to have time to get in & get settled.

Good Luck!

I, too, pull my kids from school for WDW trips, however, this is a case where I think being at school would be more important.

Is there any way you can shift the dates?

*I* would definitely either cut the trip short or reschedule. Is there any way to add the days to the beginning of the trip instead.

Missing one or 2 days is not a big deal to me. BUT the first few days are when everyone gets acquainted and oriented and I would hate for my kids to feel left out, clueless of what's going on, and feel like they are getting the "leftovers" because they are the last ones there.

Not saying that that would happen. But that was something I, myself, was anxious about when I was growing up and going to school. So, I definitely don't want my kids to go through that.

I agree with the above poster, if your kids wouldn't mind missing the first two days I would probably pull them out to go.

I'm one that normally would say don't skip school for a trip to WDW (I'm a teacher, what can I say?) ;)

However, in this case, I would say keep your plans the same. They will only be missing the first two days and will easily catch up. They are new to the school anyway, so it's not like they aren't going to have to make an adjustment as it is. This trip will give them some great memories and some good conversation topics to meet new friends with. Besides you need the stress relief and there's no need to lose money changing your arrangments. I say go! :yay:

A new school is a big adjustment, I would not miss the first two days of school. This also comes from a mom who takes her kids out of school for disney vacations.

Hope you can switch you dates somehow

Angela

I would explain the situation to your new school. You do have the principal or the teacher phone number.

call them explain how expensive changing your plans will be and see if they can allow the kids to be gone and do the work before hand or after.

Thank you all for your help. We talked it over and I just cancelled the whole trip and we were able to bank at least half of the points.

We decided it wasn't worth going for only 4 days because my dh job will not allow him to take vacation earlier. And dh doesn't want them to miss the first 2 days of a new school. I guess he's right.

Oh well, there's always another time. I guess that's what being a DVC member is all about.

Thanks again for the advice.

Good luck with the move. Glad you made a decision you and your family are comfortable with.

Have fun planning your new make-up vacation!
