What should I take?

Packing for our stay at OKW, 2 bedroom, 01/17-01/25. Should I pack dish soap, dishwasher soap, a sponge or dish rag and kitchen towels.

I know I need to take along bleach and tug cleaner for the tug in the master suite.

All of those items should be supplied. No need to bring them.

I always take extra laundry detergent and fabric softener. The packet of detergent they give you is enough for about 2 loads. I don't care for powder, so I fill a 20 oz. empty pop bottle with detergent. For fabric softener, I usually take dryer sheets or I fill another empty pop bottle with downy (if I take some things that can't go in the dryer). I carry the bottles in my carry on bag so they won't spill or burst open during rough handling of luggage. (Did I say that?? ) I usually leave any that is left over or dump them. If you think you'll do LOTS of laundry or you're staying a LONG time, I'd suggest buying a small bottle of detergent when you buy groceries.

These are the extra household items I take:

* Laundry detergent (tabs are great) and softener sheets
* Coffee filters for 12 cup machine
* Salt & pepper (no longer supplied)
* Variety of Ziploc bags (handy for all sorts of things from leftovers to wet clothes)
* Spices for cooking in small ziploc bags
* Wine bottle vacuum stoppers

Some things that are not supplied any more include placemats and coasters. On my October visit they had added pot holders though.

A few people bring along a George Forman grill, non-stick fry pans, etc if they really think they are necessary. I find the kitchen well stocked in a one-bedroom or above. For a studio stay I add the following:

* Ziploc containers (you can store and microwave re-heat in them)
* A set of washable dinnerware (plate, bowl, cup and utensils) - you get limited paper/plastic in the studio

When we stayed at the beginning of Jan, we used the box of Tide that was supplied and on trash and towel day we received 2 more. Which was plenty for us as we packed 4 days worth of clothing and washed 2 loads for the 6 day stay. Salt and Pepper are something to bring,we forgot ours, but I don't really use too much of them so it wasn't a big deal. Other than that, I don't believe I found anything I needed and couldn't live without. We didn't drink coffee , we splurged on cappicino and used the teapot, so take the other's advice on that.

I just got back and am so jealous, I want to go again now.

Thankfully I live 2 hours away and can take a day trip if I can't stand it anymore and have to go.

Bleach is not allowed on a plane, just in case you are flying.

Wow!!! Thank you all for your replies. We're not flying so I won't have any problems bringing anything. Driving down from Maryland in our big Ford Excursion, plenty of room.

I've been grabbing salt and peppers from McD's everytime I take my DD there for lunch. I got Wisk tablets, dryers sheets packed and color magnet sheets, planning on doing alot of laundry with 5 adults and 1 kid. We are all packing light, plus clean towels everyday, they don't know how to use one more than once. Baggies of all sizes, a few trash bags, foil, plastic wrap, napkins, a can/bottle opener, air fresheners for the bathrooms. I bought the cheap wine with the twist off caps, I used 20 oz water bottle for my hard stuff. Ha! Ha!

Do I need to pack a sharp knife and paper towels? Do they still have dishes and silverware in the 2 bedrooms at OKW. should I pack paper plates? We are only planning on having breakfasts and 1 birthday dinner there.

Great thread, thanks Ginger! I am starting my list for our first trip and I didn't think about the salt and pepper! Thanks for the heads up on that! DS has to have eggs every morning and I hate paying at least $12 every morning for them, so I will be definitely making those and they need salt and pepper!

It's been 2 years since we stayed in a 2 bedroom at OKW. I couldn't remember what I needed but I do remember on our last stay my DH took a small non-stick frying pan for his morning eggs.

Can anyone tell me what the pots and pans are like in the one bedroom. We have never stayed in a one bedroom and I am wondering if the kettles are sufficient to cook with.

We bring some foil to wrap leftovers. On our last trip we bought a package of plastic cups, it seems like we always run out of glasses first so it saved us from running the dishwasher so often. We also bring a couple small bars of hand soap, one for the extra bathroom sink in the master and one for the kitchen sink.

We have generally found that bringing extra laundry detergent is a good idea (we love the tide tablets!) if we plan on doing much laundry.
We have also found it convenient and helpful *(and much cheaper! ) to pack an insulated soft foam cooler that includes a lot of items we might use for breakfasts,(if you're big on coffee, bring a pound of your favorite as well as coffee filters!) snacks, lunches etc. If you don't expect to eat in at all, don't bother but we found we had more of what we wanted and needed this way and saved a bundle too! We packed the cooler (and checked it as baggage on the airlines) with freezer packs and brought along anything from cheese to cereals, to frozen bacardi mixers for blender drinks. If you think you might want a fuller list of what we brought along, let me know. I won't bore you with it if it won't be useful. Have fun. As I write this in NY, we're expecting temps of -40 with a windchill tomorrow so I envy your escape! Have a great time.

Am I the only one who was sort of surprised that the rooms didn't have coffee filters? I had carefully packed all the rest of the stuff but the filters. I guess I just thought the coffee pot is sort of useless without filters, so seemed logical they would be stocked. Not a fun surprise - you don't want to get between DH and his morning coffee!!

In an emergency use a paper towel as a coffee filter. My mom does this and it works!

You're not strange at all. How's this for strange. I find the sheets to be incredibly uncomfortable so even though we fly, I pack a set of comfy "travel" sheets. The ones in the room (doesn't matter which resort, they're all the same - sheet-wise) are so "itchy". How's that for neurotic?

I just wanted to say I met Joe Namath at WDW two years ago! We were at the lounge at BWI having a couple cocktails on a Friday evening and he kept coming up and ordering Long Island Ice Teas to go. I guess he was taking them up to his room or something, but he came by the bar 3 or 4 times. We talked to him for a moment, but didn't want to disturb him. He was very nice!!

Maybe you'll run into him sometime down there!!!

It's actually "Dutchie", short for Duchess, the kitten we got last year. The one who is sitting on my lap right now making her presence known, but also making typing VERY difficult.

I hear you on the sheets. Next time I'm considering bringing my own pillow - the super awesome one I got for Christmas that I don't know if I can live without. If I had to make a choice between the pillow and DH, well..... LOL!
