What Should I Request, AKL Standard Room?

I don't mind a view of trees or parking lot but want to avoid a view of a roof. I also want to be in a semi-quiet location. Any suggestions as to what I should request for a room location? Thanks! Sorry to be asking so many AKL questions.

disneylvr,

We were at the AKL in June at a standard rate. When we checked in, we were assigned room # 1458 on the Zebra trail. We were very happy with this room. It was located across the hall from Simba's Clubhouse and I was worried that this might be noisey, but we never heard a thing in the 6 days that we were there! Mara was right out the door and around the corner, about a 15 second walk from our room, VERY CONVIENIENT!

There is some debate as to if this is actually a "standard" room or a "pool" room. We were on the first floor with a view of a walkway to the pool.

If we ever go back to the AKL again with a "standard" room, I would like this area again.

Good Luck!

Tom

Hi Disneylvr,

Standard Rooms are located on the Ostrich Trail and the Giraffe Trail they overlook the parking lot area. I believe the post you are referring to where someone was overlooking the roof that leads out to the front of the resort. If you are looking for quiet room then request the Ostrich Trial. The Giraffe Trail is located closer to the pool and the foodcourt but you would not want to be on the 3rd floor as those rooms are on the path to the bus stop.

As Tom noted in his post he had a room on the Zebra Trail I am one who firmly believes that Tom was upgraded to a Pool View room. I refer to these rooms as boarderline view rooms. Meaning it is a good room to upgrade someone who paid for a standard view to but if someone paid full price for a Pool View they might not be that thrilled.

No matter what room you end up in the AKL has plenty of areas to view the animals from and it is a great resort. Hope you have a great trip.

I would be inclined to not request anything and hope for some magic - we made no requests and had a lovely savannah view.

Thank you everyone! Bev, I am going to try not making any requests and we'll see what happens. :)

Seems like, depending on the time of year you go, most people who request a standard are upgraded to pool or Savannah room if AKLhas them available. Pool view is nice and Savannah view is great (have stayed in both). One thing you can do is fax in a request, or call the hotel directly and request a Savannah view room about four or five days before check-in.

If you are uncomfortable with this, you can always ask if one is available at check-in. The worst that would happen is that you would be offered the upgrade at a very nominal charge. Again, this is dependent on demand. Don't expect a free upgrade the week of Christmas, New Year's eve or Easter.

I think so many people get upgraded for free is because approximately 90% of the rooms are Savannah view. More people go for the lessor rate than there are rooms available at that rate. When you reserve a standard view, you are garanteed at least a standard view. If you reserve a Savannah view, you are paying extra to be garanteed at least a Savannah view.

Often I have read that Savannah views have been upgraded to Deluxe rooms and Deluxe rooms have been upgraded to Concierge. I think AKL tries to give you the best room available at check-in.

We have reserved standard view and been upgraded to pool view Christmas week and paid extra for Savannah view at Easter to make sure we got one. If your heart is set on Savannah view during a peak time, go ahead and reserve one when making reservations, that way you will be sure you get one and won't have to wonder if you will actually get one. Just remember, there aren't a large number of bunk bed rooms on the Savannahs. Seems more of them are pool view.
