What should I NOT ride?

I do have neck problems-so could you tell me which rides I should avoid?

We went to Universal in 2004, I did ok on MIB, Mummy, but Jurrasic park ride, my neck hurt at the big drop, so I didn't go on it anymore and my family did. At Seaworld I did the water ride, and it had a big drop, and it didn't bother my neck, (can't remember the name)

I know I won't do Space Mt., did that in the 80's and didn't like it.
I know I won't do RnR, I don't like roller coasters that go upside down.

How jerky do you feel BTMR, Splash Mt., EE to be? :sunny:

I don't think BTMR would be a good idea. If you are going to Animal Kingdom, definitely avoid Primeval Whirl and I hear Dinosaur is pretty rough.

I have never been on it, but I've seen videos of EE and I don't think you should go on it.

Both times that I went on Tower of Terror my neck felt achy and I had a headache in the back of my head. Obviously, it wasn't that bad or I would not have gone twice ;) But I think if I had neck problems, or back problems, I would skip ToT. But don't miss the queueing area. You can duck out at the last minute and go down the normal elevator.

I found Rock N Roller coaster to be very smooth so I think if you don't move your head around, you might be ok.

Star Tours is a very rocky simulator ride, just so you know. It didn't bother me like ToT did but I also don't have neck or back problems too often.

Even though it isn't the wildest roller coaster I seem to feel very shaken when I get off of Space Mountain. I would watch out for that one as well as Dinosaur as previsouly mentioned. My neck has been bothering me a bit and I sure hope to get the problem fixed by my trip in September.

Funny you should mention this - I just had a car accident and have a hairline fracture of my first and second vertebrae. I'm going to Disney World for Memorial Day weekend and here is my list of no-no's.

Magic Kingdom - Space Mountain, Splash Mountain, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Speedway, Tea Cups, Stitch's Great Escape (because of how the restraint comes down)

Animal Kingdom - Safari (too bumpy), Kali River Rapids, Primeval Whirl, Dinosaur, Expedition Everest (although I'm not sure what the warning signs say - it's a smooth ride though)

MGM - Rock N Roller Coaster, Twilight Zone (for both of these, I will go through the whole pre show and bail out right before the actual ride - the pre show of Twilight Zone IS the attraction to me anyway)

Epcot - Test Track, Maelstrom (for now since I'm still in a neck brace), Mission:Space (but I will check out the tamer version at a later date). For both Test Track and Mission:Space, I'll do the pre show stuff too.

Everything else is fair game for me, neck brace and all. Really, there's not a lot you need to "give up" on your trip.

I'm so glad you included the Safari ride. Mom has neck problems, and when we went to WDW last year, although I'd thought of many "typical" problem rides to avoid, we didn't think to avoid the Safari ride. Afterwards she commented on how much it bothered her with all the bumps.

Are these GREAT big bumps, or a lot of small bumps, because I think I could take small jolts (maybe) :sad1:

EE should be OK for you. It is very smooth and the drops are not of the sudden jerky variety.

When we went on the safari (more than once each trip) in 2000, 2 trips in 2002 & 2004 (pregnant & dh recent back surgery) I had no idea what everyone was talking about with bumps and jerking etc, though dh only 9 mo out of surgery w/ screws in his back said he felt it in 2004. Then in 2005 we ended up in the back seat, never sat there before, with the worst driver. lol She drove around like she was on an Indy track, hit every pot hole imaginable on the road took corners tight (due to the speed she was driving) and took to braking suddenly when she spotted something. What a different ride that was! But when we were walking out the family that was behind the driver said it was the tamest they had ever been on. :confused3 So I wonder if where you sit in the jeep has anything to do with it? It never occured to me before but we had always been somewhat in the middle before.

Back before our first trip in 2004 I was having serious back problems and talked to the people over on the disabilities forum here on the Dis. One of the tips I got was to sit right behind the driver on the Safari for a smooth ride. We did and I am sure it made a big difference. Same thing happened on the Dinosaur ride, we sat in front and it was so tame I was sure that the whole ride was like that but this past October we sat in the last row, and oh my gosh it was just wild!! A whole lot of fun but I was really scared my back was going to break right in two. Lucky for me I must be pretty much healed up because I was fine :) .

I haven't ridden WDW's Space Mountain yet but I have the Disneyland version and that is one mean ride as far as your neck is concerned so you might want to steer clear of that one. However you did okay on the Mummy? Wow, because that ride is intense! Amazingly brilliant, but intense :goodvibes .

Sorry about your neck injury. I also have a bad neck, but I don't let that stop me from riding my favorite rides. I just take my meds the morning that I am going to ride a rocky ride. Yet there are some rides that i won't do if I am feeling crappy that day, and there are some rides that i won't do at all.

MK: BTMR, SM,
EC: Mission Space, Body Wars, Malestorm
MGM: Star Tours
AK: Dinosaur, Primevil Whirl

I find that rides that you can rest your head against the head rest are not as bad as those that your head is likely to be bumped or rocked around without some kind od support.
Good luck!
