Dh is off to Germany for business this week and he wants to know what to get me and the DSs.

Is there anything I should ask for or try? He will be in Stuttgard for his trip.

Dss are 13,8 and 2. I have to do the "single mom" dance for one week and not too excited about it..I give all single moms HUGE credit.

Danke Schoen!

Ritter chocolate---it's really good! Dark chocolate with hazlenut is my favorite.

When I went to Germany my kids always begged me to bring home Kindereggs. They are chocolate eggs with a milky coating that have cracker-jack like toys inside. I'm pretty sure I found them in the Frankfurt airport but they have them at any grocery store or variety store.

Lederhosen. Very stylish. You can all put them on and sing:

"The hills are alive, with the sound of music."

The gift that just keeps on giving.

I would want a nutcracker. And of course chocolate. :)

My in-laws got us a Cuckoo Clock when they went to Germany. It is very nice. It is something nice that you never see here in the US.
It brings back memories of my Grandma's house because she used to have one.

We lived in Germany in the early 90's and I LOVED shopping-best place was Rothenburg ob der Tauber, a beautiful 16th century city. You did not ask that, but it was my favorite place to go shop!:D
Some neat things to get are: Nutcrackers that are unique (I have a shepard one), little wooden ornaments, dolls (but I see you have sons!), crystal, chocolate, children's books(German picture books). bavarian style linens, bavarian hats for the boys. Steiff teddy bears or other animals, Playmobil (they were made within miles of the first place we lived). Oh, SO many cool things to buy he should have NO trouble.

I have to make him a list for us cuz he is so brain-dead that he will bring nothing back for the kids and not think anything of it.

Great idea so far...as for the lederhosen...that might be kinda scary for me and him. LOL! ;)

My friends dh is in the military and he brought her home a lovely Cuckoo Clock- that's what I'd ask for!!

Cuckoo Clock

German ones are so beautiful and they are VERY expensive here.

When we were in Germany before we had kids, I bought a small teddy bear dressed in lederhosen. When you squeeze its stomach, it yodels. ;)

- and I don't know how to spell this;) - so I'll type it phoenetically:) "weighknocker"..

It's a Christmas decoration, wooden... of the nativity.

You light the 6 candles around the base, the heat spins the fans...turns the scenes of the nativity.

It's lovely, and I've never seen them here.

Does that make sense??LOL!!

Have fun this week!!

Mmm...I love the kindereggs but my absolute favorite German treat is the wafer cookies and waffeleten. I pay a fortune for them in the international foods section of the grocery store.

You might also have him look for some Christmas ornaments--they make some really beautiful ones. One thing kids always like are the little cardboard coasters that you get in restaurants. They usually have beers on them but the writing is in German. DD always likes to play with the German coins I brought back with me as well. I lived in Germany before she was born but I had saved some of my change when I left. She's also got money from France, Italy, and England.

How about a cuckoo Clock! They are georgous! I have one from one of my trips to Germany. They also do a lot of beautiful woodwork.. inlaid wood...jewelry boxes, wall hangings, etc... very nice! If the Christmas decorations are available, they are so pretty. We have quite a few, and they are treasured. There are also German Pyramids.. which spin with a candle burning below.

I have one of these from Germany, only mine has snowmen on it, it's so cute.

I personally, would want Birkenstocks LOL, they are half the price over there!

We always just called ours the Christmas carousel. I had no idea there was an official name for them! ;)

We're able to get them around here. Ours is 3-tiered & unpainted. It's beautiful. I'd love to have one from Germany though!

In addition to the things already mentioned, I'd ask for a German santa. I've seen some beautiful Old World santas - usually with a ceramin head & paper mache body. I love all things Christmas & our American "Coke" Santa, but Kris Kringle, Father Christmas et all have an appeal all their own!
