Well, after a couple of glasses of wine, I'm now numb enough to take the plunge and actually post my first picture, one I shot earlier today.

It's of ice formed on a window with just a hint of the sun setting in the back. I was practicing at F5 going for the blurred background, so I'm happy with that. And I like the gloomy feel, but wish the bottom (bottom left particularly) was a little lighter but still maintining the blurriness of the tree behind it. (is blurriness a word?!)

Any suggestions on how I can improve on this shot tomorrow?

Get the camera on a tripod and use a lower shutter speed to balance the ambient light and minimize the shadows. I LOVE the frost crystals, and if you recompose the shot so the camera is a little lower with the shadows on each side it might make them shine a bit more.

It's amazing the colors you can pull from a shot after twilight using a low shutter speed.
