What should I get DS's teacher??

I really like the gift certificate to a book store idea...can someone help me out here on about how much the gift certificate should be for? I wouldn't want to have the good intentions cancelled out by being perceived as cheap!

Mo's class as a whole got her a big gift certificate so I wanted our gift to be personal. I know many people don't burn candles (including myself) so we got her the tart burner instead which has no wick and is warmed by a lightbulb. I also know many teachers are tired of knick knacks and that is why I made sure I included a gift receipt. That way, she can return it for something she really likes if she chooses.

I'm getting my daughters teachers a VISA GIFT CARD for $50.00. That way she can use it however she wants, dinner, school supplies, clothes, spa, anyplace that takes Visa.

Of couse, each daughter will write their own special thank you and I will do one also.

I was just in their school yesterday and took a few pictures of the kids in their classroom. I am going to order a cake and have their class picture put on it. Kids get a kick out of having a piece of cake with their face on it!

:D

We always buy Barnes and Noble GC's.

I gave the Dumbo Stapler to DS's preschool teachers along with the class all contributing to a Gift Certificate to the mall. I think every one contributed $10 ($5 for each teacher) so they each got $75 to the mall and then they eachgot smaller gifts. I just like the disney desk stuff and they will always know it came from us!

I gave dd's kindergarten teacher and aide each a cashier's check. I thought they could spend it anyway they wanted.

As a former teachert that never received a thank you gift (6th grade LD teacher....), I would have loved a gift certificate or maybe a bucket of Margaritas--not joking there!!

This year for my DD's preschool teacher we made a flower pot (took a terra cotta pot and put DD's hand prints all around it--then I wrote Thanks for helping me grow--on the rim of the pot) and put a pretty plant in it. I loved how it looked. It was personal and handmade--the kind of gift I love to get and give!

For Christmas we gave DS's teacher a gift certificate to amazon.com. For the end of the school year we bought a beautiful bouquet of spring flowers and gave her a personal note. DS took his fingerprints and made them into flower petals and then we drew the stem and leaves, then he wrote a note that said thank you for helping me grow this year. Then DH and I wrote a note of appreciation to the teacher telling her what a wonderful job she did while she had our son. We would have given her a plant in a pretty pot, but our military base is closing and we are all moving and you can not ship live plants, that is why we went with the flowers.

Wow, a lot of good ideas here!

After you put your DD's handprints on the flowerpot, how did you make it waterproof? Did you spray something over the pot? Or did you use a special paint?

For my DDs 2nd grade teacher, one of the other Mom's picked up a nice denim tote bag that the kid's are going to "handprint" with their paws and name. Then each family (that wants to) can contribute something for inside the bag. I am thinking of adding sunscreen and a gift certificate to Applebees, though I love the idea of really pretty paper plates and gc for a pizza....decisions....

legs22,

Ahhhhh, I didn't think about putting anything on the pot to make it waterproof....I just used craft paint that I bought from Michael's. I am not sure if it will last....

I got DD#2 and DS's teachers gift certificates to the teacher supply store for Christmas, and for the end of the year they will get a nice card and a gift certificate to a local restaurant. Especially at the elementary level, there is SO MUCH work to do at the end of the year no one wants to cook on the last day!!!!
As a teacher at the HS level where there is a "no gifts" I would like to add that even a little note of appreciation is good--so if your HS kids have a teacher they really like, maybe you could encourage them to write a note.

I gave gifts to the whole school this year! Ok, it's a small private preschool with 5 teachers and a director that I love. I was only going to do the 2 teachers for DS4 and 1 teacher for DS6, but when the others saw what I was making, they had a fit. I made them each one of those Capri Sun drink pouch purses, only I used watermelon Tang pouches. They all had to see them because I was dumping all that fruit drink into their recess jugs so I could use the pouches! Each bag cost me less than $2 to make, I put Lindt chocolates in each (BJ's warehouse, $7 for 40) and for the boys' actual teachers I gave a $20 Target gift card. Personal notes of thanks into each bag. When I brought the bags into the school, everyone had a fit...

DS6 starts 1st grade in public school next year, so I am curious to find out what would be appropriate for that. This school we are at now is just like family, so I loved doing all that I did, but it would probably be considered too much... or would it???

I am giving the teachers both gift cards to Baskin Robbins/ Dunkin Donuts. I figure they could use a treat after a year with all these kids! :p

I've found that what the teachers appreciate most is a thoughtful note that thanks them specifically for what they have done. I've already given my gifts for this year and even though I gave a little flower....both teachers commented on how I said such nice things. I also had my boys write a little note too. When they were in preschool I always had them draw a picture.
