Ok, I called today to extend our vacation by one day (October 7), but there was no availability at SSR for a studio (that's what we are staying in for the rest of the week). I waitlisted for a studio at SSR and a studio SV room at AKV. But that doesn't solve my problem of having a hotel room for the first night. I called to see what was available at a moderate and couldn't believe what the room rate was (it was over $220 for a Coronado waterview room - that's all they had available). The last time I stayed at a moderate was about 6 years ago and I could get a room for $100 - lol! AP rates aren't out for that week.

I don't want to spend a lot of $ on a hotel if our waitlist doesn't come through so I am in need of some suggestions please. Do you think the waitlist will come through at this late notice?

First, if it never comes through - use Priceline's "name your own price" and you'll get a steal for the night. A great backup b/c it actually is best used at the last minute when hotels are scrambling. You could choose the airport area and still use ME the next day if you were or choose areas right next door to WDW including the DD hotels.

But I really think you'll get something at some point.

If you're at seven days - do not forget that all waitlists are over and no one has priority and these are anyone's rooms up for grabs during this time frame (seven days to check-in). Anything can come up AT ANY MINUTE. Ie. If you phone on the day seven out at 10 AM - something could come in a minute later. So a "no" during this period could change in an instant - no waitlists for anyone.

You'd be surprised how many people cancel at the last minute. I've gotten SSR for 9 nights during prime December, BWV - Standard for a week, VB - OVIR, BCV when everything was gone and AKV - SV when AKV was still only limited rooms (Jambo). Yes I adore spontaneity. Laughing.

Have fun!

Thanks for the advice and words of encouragement. I forgot about Priceline ~ duh and I was planning on using them to get a rental car.
