what should I do with our 5 mugs? leaving tomorrow...

You can always bring your rfid mug back on a future visit. They will reactivate the chip but there is no discount for reusing a mug.

I would love to be able to create a custom RFID mug that I could use over and over again. I would reactivate it on each trip.

As I was told by somebody, you do not have to be staying at a resort to buy a mug, so they are obviously good for longer than when your resort stay ends if you have a length of stay (that is 14 days) --some people aren't even at a resort and have them. You can always just give them away to another family you see at your resort.
Ew!!!

I know that you mean well, but there's no way that I would use someone's old mug unless I could run it through a dishwasher first (which most visitors don't have access to). You never know what kind of nasties could be hanging out on a stranger's mug.

DH uses this mugs for his coffee. I used to buy them nice ones but always got stolen at work. Ever since he started to using the Disney ones the problem was solved. I guess military men aren't into stealing Disney mugs :).

Take them home. And if you have too many or don't have a use for them donate them to a local charity - youth group, church, goodwill, etc. When we hold our charity yard sale every year we can't keep the Disney merchandise in stock. It flies off the tables. :thumbsup2

That is what I was thinking.

Even if you had access to a dishwasher, it might mess with your RFID chip anyhow.

I am definitely not a germophobic. I would simply take it back to my room and wash it out with hot soap and water. No big deal. What do you think they do with dishes anyway? Easily half of the dishes in our home are not washed in a dishwasher.

We stayed in a 1 bedroom with our DVC with a dishwasher. We were told repeatedly by CMs that the heat of the dishwasher would render our RFID chip useless and that it would not be able to be reactivated. Don't know if it's true or not, but thought I'd share.

Yes, but you know who ate off of those dishes and who drank from those cups at home. And if someone in your household had strep throat or an active cold sore, I'm sure that you'd be disinfecting those dishes in the dishwasher instead of just giving them the soap-and-water treatment.

I'm not willing to take the risk for the sake of saving a couple of bucks on beverages.

Pixie Dust for Me!, I've read conflicting information about the RFID chip and dishwashers. Some say it's okay in the dishwasher but not the microwave. Some say it cannot be put in either.

Hot soapy water will kill even those germs. Again, no problem. Personally, I would want to keep our mugs.

I don't have a dishwasher. ;)

I used to get them with the dining plan stays and I've got a drawer full of them. Now I use them to carry my coffee to work.

Doubt I'll buy any RFID ones. We don't like to drink a lot of soda and I have to have coffee before I leave the room!

OP - give them away or throw them away - it's your choice. I would like to think someone actually used them versus they land in the trash.

We washed our mugs on the top rack every night last fall (beach club villas DVC 2bd). No problems with the chip.

I use it for my morning soda to work :) . I will say that they have caused us to stop buying mugs at the gift shops.

We use old mugs constantly. They're great for the summer, when I don't want glasses in the yard by the pool. My kids use them to bring water or other drinks up to their bedrooms, where I don't want glass either. I use them as travel mugs if I want to bring a cup of tea somewhere-- like to Gymnastics on a cold winter night. We're (STILL!!) doing construction on our house, and they're great for offering cold drinks to the workers-- they're insulated, have a handle, and don't break.

My husband brought one home when he chaperoned his school's Senior Trip last month, and I'm looking forward to getting 5 more to add to our collection this summer!

I guess if the giver feels ok about it and the receiver feels ok about washing it and feeling it is clean. Another thing you could do with them is to use them as gifts or party favors depending on how many you have stored up. Clean well in hot soapy water add some bleach if you feel a need to or put them through a dishwasher. Put some treats inside and you have a nice little gift.

give them to Goodwill if you don't want them,I'll buy them from there! I love the various travel Disney mugs...... I've gotten a few this way (.99) someone in the house is always grabbing a travel mug...FWIW we hand wash our mugs....soap and water is an amazing thing:thumbsup2:rotfl:

I just picked up 2 brand new mugs at Goodwill, one with the new rapid fill logo. I use my mugs to bring my coffee to work every morning. I've got two older ones with the picture wearing off so perfect timing picking up the two new ones.

Doesn't water in your sink get just as hot as water in the dishwasher? Both should disinfect a cup just saw well.

No, it doesn't. My dishwasher actually heats its own water. And hotels intentionally set their water low to prevent scalding. So, washing in a the sink at your resort is not going to be as effective as washing in a dishwasher.

Plus, dishwasher detergent contains bleach, which is a disinfectant. Regular dish soap does not.

People can do whatever they want. I really don't care if you use someone's discarded/donated refillable mugs. I get skeeved out at the very thought of doing it. :crazy2:
