I have 5 mugs, 3 of them are expiring April 23 (we just got here on Wednesday, but we bought them all at the same time) and 2 are may 8. Should we try to just take them home? Is there something I should do? Can I try to sell them? We are at the Animal Kingdom Lodge now... till tomorrow when our bus leaves at 6pm.

Suggestions?

Just take them home.

You bougth them and they are yours regardless of when they expire, try to take them home or toss them in a recycle bin if you do not want them/won't fit in your return luggage. Mugs are not transferrable.

We have a ton of them in our cabinet at home. Could not stand to trash them. The come home and we do in fact use them a lot. They are great for drinks in the car to prevent spills.

Ugh, I wish the timing had been right, I would have taken one of the May 8 ones off your hands, but we left Sunday :(

I've still got a set that are good forever. At least that was the rules when we purchased them. The rules seem to change every couple of years.

There are none now that are good for another trip. I guess (?) they have dated sensors on all of them, so if you tr to get a drink, nothing comes out into the cup. ? Not nice at all. We bought them a few years ago as they sold us the FOREVER date. Not nice.

You can't run the soda machines without buying a mug with an RFID chip now. Your mugs are no longer any good for use at WDW. Just a nice souvenier to use at home now.

Yea I know. I've got
Several sets since then.

I know! I understand that the mugs cannot be used after the stay in which they were purchased, but this is not very "green" of Disney! They should offer a way to reactivate the chip if you wish to reuse a mug for ecological reasons.

My issue as well and I have written to them about this and excessive numbers of magic bands. The answer I received was not very helpful and I fear will not keep all this crap out of landfills.

We have about 8 of them at home and will soon have 3 more. I guess we now collect them. :sad2: They are good mugs to use at home but the problem is that I always reach for my tervis tumblers.
I can't bring myself to throw them out either.

We have lots & lots of the mugs at home.
Last year my dd filled some up with candy & gave them to my son's little boys and they loved them.

I thought that I had read somewhere (maybe it was Passporter.com?) that you can bring your old RFID-chipped mugs back and have them reactivated on repeat visits? You don't get any discounts for it. You end up paying the same price that you would pay for a brand new mug. But if you're concerned about having too many or that they may end up in a landfill, bringing them back is still an option just like it was with the "forever" mugs. The difference being, now you have to pay for those refills on subsequent visits.

ok, thanks for your advice, our flight has been delayed so I guess we will sneak one more day out of them.

Sherri :)

As I was told by somebody, you do not have to be staying at a resort to buy a mug, so they are obviously good for longer than when your resort stay ends if you have a length of stay (that is 14 days) --some people aren't even at a resort and have them. You can always just give them away to another family you see at your resort.

oh I hope you took them home, we love ours and have saved and used them at home since 2007. they are great for drinks on the go and we use them for Disney movie time also

This is true in more ways than 1
I bought my mug from POFQ because I wanted new design that POP hadn't gotten yet so BFF and I went on expedtion Mug. I walked into food court grabbed mug color I wanted and paid for it with length of stay, went over to dispenser and filed it up. Used it at POP for rest of my stay, brought it home with me and DH took it back to WDW with him and used it for his entire stay.

Last time we were there, we had a couple days left on our mugs when we checked out. We gave them to a couple that had not purchased mugs so they could use the days. I really did not want to bring them home. I already have 12 in my cabinet!
I agree that we should be able to reuse them and have them rifd chip reactivated. We go to WDW alot and dont need to bring home any more mugs.
