I've heard sometimes bags don't arrive in the room until dinnertime, so I'm wondering if it's necessary to pack my dinner outfit, makeup etc in my carry on bag?? I know to bring essentials like bathing suits, documents, and medicine, I'm even packing my magnets, cups for drinks etc, but I'm wondering if it is really likely that I would need to pack my dinner things. Also when do we find out what time we've been assigned for dinner. We are 22 days out and I didn't see this in the booklet.

Pack essentials - cruise documents, medications, electronics. Also, any clothes that you think you may need before bedtime. One note, no need to change clothes for dinner the first night. You can wear what you wear to board the ship (as long as it's just a swimsuit).

Your reservation should have "Dining Preference" indicated on it. "Main seating" is early (generally 5:45). "Second seating" is late (usually around 8:30). That's online.

We packed our Fish Extender hanger, magnets, computer and phones (we had to work on our 17 night vacation, wah wah), travel documents, our cups, good camera, meds, basically all the things we would be devastated if it got lost....and back in the day, a HUGE drink supply. That bag had 60 pounds of water, mixers, wine and booze. Also, our FEs were cups, straws, and rootbeer to make floats at the soft serve machines, so we had all that rootbeer.

Also, people were VERY casual that first night. I mean, we boarded, mustered, sailed away and then it was immediately in to dinner service. Even with our luggage delivery early, we did not have time to change.

is it likely that the dining preference will be honored or is this just something they take in to consideration?

The dining preference shown on your reservation is firm unless you ask to change it. If it says Main, you can assume that is what you will have. There may be rare occasions when Disney Cruise needs to move a party from one seating to another, but we have always had the seating shown on our confirmation. We did have one cruise on which we had booked Second seating but requested to move to Main seating after we boarded. In that case, we were told the request was not guaranteed but received a phone call 2 hours later saying our dining time had been moved.

Hi

What are magnets and why do you need them? Sorry if it's a dumb question !
Two main reasons, though neither is essential. First, people decorate their doors with magnets. Usually they commemorate past cruises or other Disney vacations. The other reason is they do magnet exchanges. You sign up with a group and everyone exchanges magnets like a gift exchange. These magnets are then used for your door on all future cruises.

The stateroom walls, doors, etc.. are all made of steel. We bring magnets, to hang up bags, scarves, lanyards, clothing, etc.. to save on closet and drawer space.
