My DM and I are going down- alone-- in Sept to have a mini vacation and to check into seeing if DVC is right for our families. We have a 1BR at BCV so we can see if we like staying at a DVC resort. What else should we plan on doing/looking at? Is there a main location we can visit with all the info about DVC?

You should plan to take the DVC tour - the sales center is located at SSR. You can make the arrangements right from your room phone or at any of the DVC kiosks located in all of the parks, resorts and at DD.

DVC will pick you up and return you to your resort after the tour. Child care is provided. I'd plan to spend about 90 minutes, but they will accommodate shorter tours if needed.

Enjoy! :)

The tour at SSR is very worthwhile. They also have a model AKV villa set up there (at SSR), if you want to see it.

Ditto. Also, each DVC resort offers something different. If you have time, go visit each one if you haven't already. All have restaurants, so you can go grab lunch or dinner and check it out!!!

OKW and SSR are somewhat similar (condo-style, lush landscape). BWV and BCV are similar (hotel style, in the middle of it all!). AKV and VWL are similar (hotel style, elaborately themed). This will really help you think through which resort to choose as your home resort if you choose to purchase.

Safe travels, good luck, and enjoy your stay!!! :goodvibes

Do yourself a favor and read all that you can here on the DIS. Learn from other peoples mistakes and profit from their successes.

Try to rent at the resorts that you may be interested in then buy points where you like to rent.

Take the time to visit the DVC resorts at WDW to get a feel for the resorts. Look around for DVC Members and ask them questions while at the resorts, DVC Members love to share.

You will be spending a good hunk of change on a membership. Take the time to make sure that you are happy with your decision.

We just did exactly what you are doing. We spent 7 months researching before we even took it to the next step. Educate yourself and read the fine print before you sign. Read the info they give you when received. All too often I see simple questions asked that could easily be answered by re-reading the literature or going to the members website.
