I was just wondering what security is in place for:

Disney Parks

Disney Springs

Disney Resorts

I know some things are secret, but what is known about the security at each place? With all the terrorism, I want to know everything that can be done is being done to make our upcoming trip as safe as possible.

TIA!

Bag checks entering each park, and entering Monorail, visible security presence, both local law enforcement and Disney security.
All the rest is behind the scenes and not published.
They want something to happen less than you do

They are under near-constant operation, so I imagine they are more active in their security duties than most large, public spaces like stores, parks, bike paths, etc... It's expensive to put security guards out at a location, "just in case" ; at Disney, they're constantly looking over tens of thousands of people day in and day out.

All I know is that once we were waiting for a bus outside the Wilderness Lodge and all of the sudden all of these "normal cars" starting pulling up onto sidewalks. Then guys get out dressed in regular clothes and start putting bullet-proof vests on. I still have no idea what happened, but I know that just because you don't see law enforcement, doesn't mean that they aren't there.

Disney Parks - In addition to the above mentioned, they also do random checks of those without bags. I usually don't have a bag, but they always check me at Epcot & Hollywood Studios. I have gone thru at Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom without being checked at times. I did have my camera in my front pocket and they called me over to empty my pockets. I'm glad they do what they do. Someone in front of us got really angry about being checked.
Disney Resorts - I know they have a security checkpoint upon entering the resort at the places we have stayed. We have to give them our name and they check their paperwork to see if were listed.
Disney Springs - I really have no idea, but feel certain they have eyes watching.

Disney Springs seemed to missing something in the way of security. Fish in a barrel was my thought. Could they have cameras everywhere? Sure. But then they would have to man those screens. And to have educated, trained people doing that isn't cheap. Think about that when Disney makes another cost cutting measure.

Resorts seem like they are better. But they had no idea who I was when I went in. And our car was packed to gills. We could have brought anything into the room.

The problem is, it is very difficult to stop someone that doesn't mind dying for their cause.

I wonder if a certain type resort could be safer than another. Like a value or moderate being easier to flee than a deluxe where everyone is "housed" in one building.

There is no way to change any of the bold. They aren't going to back ground check guests and they aren't going to search belongings of guests when going to their rooms. Nor would anyone stand for them doing either

Oh, I totally agree.

I wouldn't want my stuff searched when I check into a resort. But if they did that, it would make the resorts safer.

Everyone takes a chance when they leave their house. Heck, sometimes they take a chance when they stay. People just have to decide if the chance that they are taking is worth it. For me, it is worth it to go to Disney. I take whatever additional precautions that I feel necessary and take my chances.

Doesn't seem like there is any cost cutting with security since they are increasing their spending with outside law enforcement presence

While they can't stop everything possible at the resort level I do think they have more security in place than is obvious. I've never felt at risk at Disney. Resorts or parks, or in between.

DH & I have been talking about this very subject. We have been visiting WDW for over 42 years and have seen many changes over the years one of which is the increased security in light of the world that we live in today. There has always been security in the background. If anything happens, security comes out of the woodwork, it seems. In recent years security has definitely been bumped up with more of a visible presence. Armed officers, security officers, dogs, etc. I don't think in today's world that there is anywhere completely safe. A guy walks in a Walmart & starts shooting just in the news. Good grief! People are just trying to buy a gallon on milk!

We recently sailed on the Disney Fantasy and found security stepped up there, as well. Armed officers with dogs. Security checkpoints. We even noticed that the coast guard boat that escorted the ship through the channel out to sea was manned with a machine-type gun.

Will this keep us from not doing the things we love? No. We refuse to cower in our closets! If we do that then the crazies have won!

Overall I feel safe at Disney World.

Overall I think Disney Security is full of holes, is inadequate and easy to breech.

So while I think I am very safe there 99% of the time,

all it will take is that 1% moment that could change everything.

Ive heard that other law enforcement agencies go to Disney to learn how to handle event security.

Some security is theater. But lots of those performers are doing more than you think. It’d be inappropriate to describe everything they do. But it’s probably one of the top safest places in the world.

These are the people who place trash cans based on the number of steps it takes to unwrap a candy bar, pretty sure they have a creepy level of knowledge about typical park guests.

I feel as safe as one could reasonably expect in our current day and age. I mean, are you really legit "Safe" anywhere?? I understand this sounds insanely bleak, but if a sicko wants to hurt people, they will find a way. All you can expect is that a large public place will do all they can do to prevent it; and I do think Disney has it covered better than it appears.
I have seen Disney security on the move in different spots, and I agree there is a lot more to it than meets the eye. My mom had a fall in Animal Kingdom, and the first person there to help her was a guy in an Alabama polo shirt that looked every bit the tourist dad but was undercover security.

They actually do. Disney actively trespasses people whose names appear on sex offenders databases. I wouldn't be surprised if they are cross-checking our identities with other databases as well.
