what secret was the judge holding back in Casey Anthony case?

When I first heard he was ruled out as the father I wondered how you rule out someone who has the same DNA as the mother. It may be very easy, I just always wondered how that happened.

what did Lee do at the memorial? I'm totally out of the loop, this case has been so drawn out, I can't keep up

I don't know anything about it, I haven't paid much attention to any of it, but if you think it's been drawn out so far (and I agree) her court date was set and is still a year away! Crazy.

Since there is a sample of Caylee's DNA on file (and there was long before her remains were found, Jesse Grund had even run paternity testing, so that too was on file), Lee, Cindy, Casey, and Caylee all did share some genentic markers, but Caylee would have markers that would conclusively rule out Lee if he were not the father (markers that the father would have). That is what happened here, thus Lee is NOT the father, nor is George. All the talk to the contrary is just downright vile, IMO. It all stemmed from Leonard Padilla (who I find to be downright appalling).

I'm no fan of this clan, but talk on this subject does nothing but mark the memory of that precious little girl. It's VILE!!!

I'm not talking to the poster I quoted, I just quoted that post to address the DNA testing.

I am not familar enough with DNA to know, and have tried to not follow this story (not sure how I even got on this thread) but I guess that makes sense. Basically it wasn't what was the same that they were looking at but what was different. Because there was something different that meant the father was different I guess?

BTW, if you're talking about mitochondrial DNA, that does indeed pass from a mother to her offspring. It's not as reliable as nuclear DNA, thus when you see odds when referencing it, they are MUCH lower. It wasn't mitochondrial DNA that determined that Lee was not the father. They were able to run nuclear testing to determine that. While that type of testing (same applies really to all forms of DNA) may not be able to 100% conclusively tell us who the father is, it can 100% tell us who it isn't.

The FBI lab at Quantico determined that the hair in the trunk of Casey's car may have come from Caylee. This type of testing however cannot rule out the possibility that it came from Casey, or even Cindy for that matter. Combined with a death band however, we can logically conclude, that the hair does not belong to Casey or Cindy, since that band cannot form until after death. This is why this type of evidence (DNA) is circumstantial in nature, because we have to make an inference from the information garnered. It also flies in the face of every nincompoop that gets on our TV and tells us, it's ONLY a circumstantial evidence case. Circumstantial evidence is actually preferred to direct evidence.

I'm not convinced the defense didn't have Casey writing those letters to inmates to help the defense of her case. She was all smiles in that courtroom. It appeared to me that she was smiling at Linda Kenney Baden and Andrea Lyon as if to say, we pulled that one off!!!

I guess I'll refrain till I read them for myself, but I am not putting any emphasis on any of it yet.

This is transcribed from the Caylee Marie Anthony Memorial Service
Lee's speech.

Lee Anthony steps up to the microphone:

I'd like to take this opportunity to thank everyone that has had any sort of role in making today a special day. Thank you.

If I could ask something from anybody that was willing to hear it it would be this. For those of us that are frightened or angry or mournful or that just don't undertstand, I ask that you fill your heart with patience and grace and you allow yourself to yield any judgements that you may already have.

For those of us that will never be the same again, I ask that you feel, fill your heart with hope and forgiveness and you allow yourself to cope and heal.

Finally, for those of us that have the knowledge and the means to facilitate the answers that my family deserves, I ask that you fill your heart with compassion and truth and I ask that you allow your conscience to speak for you when your mind cannot comprehend the right words to say.

I sincerely hope that this day allows those affected by it to take from it whatever it is that you need to take. If it's closure you seek here today, I certainly hope you're able to find it.

Today is the day to remember.
Today is the day to pay tribute.
Today is the day for this family to unite and display their solidarity and strength. I've gotta tell you, it is hard to stand up here and be the pillar of strength.

This family is united, but this family is incomplete. I'm incomplete. I, uh, I'm broken.

CMA-(he kisses his wrist bracelet 2 times) CMA
Each day you continue to teach me about life and about the way it should be lived. Each day you give me the ability to be strong or to be weak.
It's been so long since I've been able to see you or to hug you or to tell you how much you mean to me.

CMA- I miss you. I love you.

CMA- I am so proud of you. I hope you're proud of me too. I need you to know that I will never forget the promise that I made to you.

I will never forget.

Do you think Jose Baez encouraged her to write them? I had never thought of that angle -- one more reason why I love the DIS boards......

I just keep going back to all those things I listed in the above post -- especially a few of them: WHY would Cindy purposely give the police a brush that was NOT Caylee's ??????? Cindy obviously didn't want the police to have her DNA. WHY? She allegedly said also she should have given the police the dogs toothbrush -- WHY? Again, not wanting the police to have Caylee's DNA.......

if you're trying to locate your then missing granddaughter, WHY? WHY WOULDN'T YOU WANT TO HELP?

Don't even get me started on Lee's weirdo actions at the memorial service.....there are lots of websites picking aprt his actions and words at that service. Weird, weird, weird!

The secret is : Casey communicated with a another inmate who has since moved to another jail. "The motion goes on to reveal that the State believes "the documents... appear to contain relevant statements of the Defendant but do not include a confession."

and so why would this be kept "secret" ? I don't know much about the law but if it's a fact, it's a fact. Why keep it secret?

The prosecution was keeping it from the defense and the judge said they had to release it. It should be released because this is the kind of stupid thing prosecutors do sometimes and then the defense can have verdicts overturned. An overzealous prosecution team can turn out to be a blessing for the defense.
I'd hate to see Casey convicted and then set free because of a stupid State's attorney.

Did the 'father' die before Caylee was born? That is probably the reason why there are no social security benefits. I have a girlfriend whose fiance died in a car accident two months before their dd was born. She never received benefits. I don't know all the ins and outs but you have to have alot of proof for the benefits and she finally gave up when her dd was 2.

And I also think that one of the reasons they aren't trying to figure out exactly who dad is is for the one reason you stated. Money. They are money hungry. They want all book rights. They don't want to be sued. They want every cent for Casey's defense since they are still claiming poor Casey didn't do it.

No - she said he died on his way to her 2nd birthday party -- so not BEFORE she was born.[/QUOTE]
we do not know this was Caylee's father at all.

because they are part of the cover up. They have also lied under oath.

check our websleuths for much more CA info, plus link to all the docs that have been released.

actually the prosecution wanted it held so they could further investigate claims and witnesses listed in the letters. And I don't think our state attny is "stupid":sad2:

I agree that Lee was absolutely appalling at the memorial service. This entire clan is a bunch of weirdos though. They chewed gum during the ENTIRE memorial. Who in the world does that?

They show up in a court of law in a halter top. Chew gum in court. They are the epitome of white trash, IMO.

Who knows? Casey is a narcissist and while we'd think she was intelligent enough not to engage in such practices (her life is on the line here), we need to remember that a narcissist doesn't think like a normal person. They will ALWAYS believe they are smarter than everyone else. That they can do whatever they want and authorities will NEVER figure it out.

Did you ever sit back and watch a program on TV and think, I can't believe they put this information out there in the public's hands? All it will do is make the criminal element wiser, thus allowing them to get away with _______ (fill in the blank) crime? Someone capable of these actions always believe they are special and that no one will figure out what they've done. Galileo be damned because they are not only the center of the solar system, they are the center of the universe! They don't think like you and I, so they cannot even begin to comprehend how anyone could possibly figure it out. Time and time when these cases arise we think, are you really that stupid? Well yes, they are that stupid, and it's for this exact reason.

So yeah, she could have written them of her own accord, but it's also a possibility that it's a tactic being played out on the part of the defense team. I guess we'll have to wait and see what she wrote.

While some prosecutors engage in less than stellar tactics (and I think each one should be prosecuted - Duke case for example), prosecutors didn't bypass the law here. They followed the chain of command. Since Florida is a state that has this thing called, "discovery" (as do the other 49 states), there was no way the state could keep this from the defense. Florida also has this thing called, "reciprocal discovery," and the defense doesn't like to play by the same book.

Trust me, if Casey is convicted, there will be no appellate issue (let alone overturning a conviction) based on this evidence.

The state will do EVERYTHING in its power to make sure Casey gets her due process.

No, this went much deeper than just all smiles.

Early on, I think she swelled with pride that all these big guns were there to help little old her. She couldn't refrain from that huge smirk. Later on though, when she was sitting with Andrea Lyon and Linda Kenney Baden, it seemed to have some meaning. Something like, mission accomplished!

you may interpret it that way, but I've watched and rewatched most all of her appearances...and she constantly does this. She usually has a mad moment as well.

I've not missed one yet either, and yes, this is the way I interpret it. It doesn't mean it's factual, but until I read those letters for myself, I will keep the option open.
