Okay, perhaps I am missing the big picture, but I did not see any difference at all in check-in / request procedures.
At both VB and VWL, we waited until 4:00 to get our rooms, as they were not ready yet. That was fine with us, as we understand anything earlier is just a bonus.
The front desks (both VB and VWL) had our requests, assigned a room, and said our assigned room would not be ready for a while (checked in at 10:00, got room at 4:00). Neither front desk cast member offered something that was ready. In fact, I asked about this at WL front desk, and the cast member had no idea what a "room ready" policy was. She told me she was the room assigner, and my room was pre-assigned according to requests.

Please don't get me wrong, as I much prefer the old method of assignments according to date booked. I just don't see the difference.

What am I missing here?

I don't think it's you that is missing anything. On this same page their is a post by someone who just visited BCV and it sure sounded like they are using a "room ready" policy there. I just wish that everyone was on the same page so as not to cause confusion for members. The fact that they had no idea of what "room ready"even is, is amazing.

It really does make a difference too. I am staying at US for two days on a Friday and Saturday in December. If they are doing room ready, I will leave Universal earlier and go check in and spend my $ at WDW. If they are not using it, I will spend more time (and $) at Universal on my check out day because it will make no difference as to the room I get.

This is the part I find odd as well. Wasn't there an "official" write-up somewhere about this now being in effect?

How could she not know anything about this policy?

The CM checking us in over Labor Day at BWV had no idea what "room ready" was, either. She was trying to confuse it with the new, guaranteed boardwalk views.

We checked in to BCV on Sunday, 10/19 around 11:00 am. The room wasn't ready - no problem.

We headed to lunch - called after that - still "no go."

We headed over to OKW to walk around - ride the boat, etc - called back around 3:00. The CM who answered the phone said, this time, "Mam - there are NO rooms ready right now." This was before I even offered my name - I just said I wanted to check on my room, and she said - there are NO rooms ready. That was a first!!! We got in about 3:45. Not complaining - I'm aware we shouldn't expect it before 4:00 - but there was NO evidence of a "room ready" policy at either resort, in my experience...

Have we seen the "room ready" policy ever posted by Disney? Or is that just something that was indicated on these boards?

The official Disney Vacation Club site still says:

Special Room Request Procedure

As a reminder, the established procedure and appropriate time for making special room requests is when you make your reservation with Member Services. If you have any additional requests, or changes to your original request, call Member Services directly. Please do not call or fax the resort where you'll be staying. To be fair to all Members, the only information we use when trying to honor special room requests is that which comes from Member Services.

With so many Members having special requests, it's important that everyone follow this established procedure. As you can imagine, the number of Members asking for particular rooms, views, floors, and buildings makes it impossible to honor all of the requests. We do our best to honor your requests, but please understand that we cannot guarantee them.

That doesn't mean that they wouldn't use "room ready", but it's the only thing on room assignments I can find from DVD.

I think the best thing to do is to just be flexible with the expectations....Maistre G, I know that you are. We'll just have to wait and see as the months go on if this "policy" takes hold.
