Just wondering what rides are ok to take a 1 month old baby? I figure most of the Fantasyland but how about Monsters Inc. or Pirates. Is Pirates too much with the drop. Has anyone ever taken a 1 mo. old or is this too young.

i wouldnt recommend you take your 1 month old on rides in Fantasyland... some rides are quiet jerky... Peter Pan rides have some drops that seems different...

only ride would be like railroad or the boats... i dont know any other rides...

Everything but the biggies should be okay. Rodger Rabbit they require (or did when I had little ones!) Baby to 'sit' on their own, so that wouldn't be a good option. Most of the others allow you to snuggle baby, or even wear her in a sling, so you should be okay.

In Fantasyland, you could definitely do It's a Small World, the Tea Cups (just don't spin them), the Carousel there are a couple of others that I am forgetting.

The Jungle Cruise is very low key.

POTC is fine (including the drop, IMO) except everyone screams really LOUD, when going down the drop but to a 1 month old that may not be a problem. The Haunted Mansion would be fine too except, possibly for the screaming in the "stretching room".

I have only been on the Whinny the Pooh ride once but seem to remember it was okay too.

The Enchanted Tiki room would be fine too!

I have taken all three of my kids at various infant ages, and I take them on everything that doesn't have a height requirement. You can do:

All of Fantasyland (my little ones slept right through every ride!)
Jungle Cruise
Haunted Mansion (cover the ears, baby was always sleeping on me in the sling)
Pirates is perfectly fine
Winnie the Pooh
Buzz Lightyear
Railroad
Monsters Inc
Flik's Flyers
Heimlich's Chew Chew Train
King Triton's Carousel

The only ones I don't ride with infants that have NO height requirement are:
Roger Rabbit (It really is the loudest ride ever)
Autopia (The baby has to be 1 year old to ride)
Teacups can get rough depending on who the CM is. Some of them will not let you hold the baby and make you sit them on the seat. Impossible with a baby that young, I even had a hard time with my 4 month old sitting next to me. Some CM's just let you hold them or be on your lap. You never know.

There are more rides that you can take an infant on than those where you can't, so have a great time!!!

A ride around your own block in their own stroller.

Seriously I would not take a 1 month old to an amusement park (especially during cold, flu, and pertussis [whooping cough] season) - and as others have posted the rides are jerky, loud, and your infant is not strapped in. :Pinkbounc

My daughter's first trip was at just shy of 2 months old, though I'm sure she probably looked like a newborn. In fact when she went to the dr. for her two month visit the nurse thought we were there for 2 week, she was just so tiny when she was born. We took her on everything without a height or age limit, except the carrousel. The only loud noise that was ever a problem for her was fireworks, and she would just go to sleep. I have seen some people be turned away from taking their infants on a ride because the child was asleep. I don't ever remember having that problem myself, though I have seen it. I know my daughter slept through Small world about the first 10 times she rode. She'd be awake right up to the point we got on the boat, then she would be out. However I will never forget the time we rode and she actually turned her head to look at something instead of just stare in front of her and watch as everything went by.

if your gonna go, you might want to take someone with you. That way, both you and the other person can enjoy the rides with baby swap. Its really nice they would do that. this is when one rides first while watching the baby, and then switch so both members can ride.

I agree. IMO, I think 1 month old is just too young to be "moved" around in amusement park ride fashion.

I totally agree. Why would you take baby to Disneyland. It's not like they're going to remember the trip! Also, why would you want to have to change diapers, nap times, going to bed early ect....while you are there. The first time I ever went to Disneyland is was 9 years and my sister was 6 years. My parents waited to that we could go on most of the rides, and remember what a great trip it was. That first trip was 18 years ago. I have been back twice since then, but I still remember the first time we went. I just don't get taking babies to DL!! :confused3

I took my son when he was 2 months old. And altho he may not remember it, we all had a great time..
We took him on all the rides in fantasyland, Pirates, and Haunted Mansion.

It wasnt that bad, they have a baby center on main street where you can feed and diaper your baby. And it is very nice and relax in there..
They even have a breast feeding area so you and baby are alone without everyone out in the open seeing you.

The only thing i do reccomend is going on a weekday so it isnt too busy..

Have fun!!

I am so with you Minnietoo, I never took my daughter out too much before she had her shots...1 month, if I remember correctly, you only have had one or 2..and thinking about the rides, sheesh I wouldnt do anything but maybe the train, Mark Twain, IASM, but even still Im not sure I would because it gets cold in IASM, wind from train and Mark Twain as well...nope definitely not...wouldnt take a baby until they were at least a year...but thats just me

My girls went often as babies. They were much easier to take care of back then :thumbsup2 LOL. And no point in waiting until they were 'older' and could remember it. We weren't going for her enjoyment, we were going for our own or (in the case of younger DD) our other children.

Some people like to stay home with infants. Wouldn't even think to go to church before baby is 6 weeks old and current on their shots. Some parents are already out and back to their normal routine by 6 weeks. There is no one answer that will work best for everyone. -- When we do Disney we've always done it nice and slow. We live close by, go often, aren't in a hurry to see anything. A baby in a sling at Disney is not any more work then a baby in a sling at home. Diapers, wipes, burp clothe, a change of clothes, mommy milk, and baby sling. Alot less work IMO then an older baby or toddler. Actually, I'd take a 6 week old to Dland anyday before a 6-9 month old. Talk about a project (which I've also done many, many times LOL).

I cannot believe this was a serious question!!! :sad2: Thought it was a joke until I opened the thread. 1 month old baby on rides!!! Are you for real??? No, NO and again, BIG NO!!!!!

It's not the taking a baby out that young that I disagree with..it's the going on rides..I think THE movement is too much; and this is the advice that the original poster requested.

OMG, so do you all sit home like hermits after a baby is born? With a 5 and 2 year old when my last son was born, I had my DD's school and all kinds of stuff I had to do with him. He'll be a year old tomorrow and has never so much as had an ear infection!

Life does go on when you have a baby amazingly enough. And they are very adaptable. It is easier to take them that young than when they are 6-7 months old and wanting to crawl and get down everywhere! YUCK! At that age, they just want to be held and that's what you do while you're there. Changing diapers at DL is no different than having to change them at home. You still gotta do it!

Going to bed early isn't a factor because they most of them aren't on a schedule yet anyways and don't care where or when they sleep. Also my son and daughters have been on all the rides I listed above as infants with no problems at all. Many infants go on them everyday, they are perfectly safe for them or they wouldn't be allowed to ride and there would be a height requirement.

Also should my world just stop when I have a baby? Should the older two have to miss out on DL for years and years, or should I have stopped at one so that I didn't have to take an infant with the others? And no it's not an option to leave the baby home since I exclusively nurse, and I wouldn't leave a member of the family behind anyways no matter how old. I would never put my kids in any danger, and I don't feel like they were. If you can ride the ride pregnant, you can ride with an infant!

OP, it's easy to keep the baby close to you. At that age, they aren't grabby and touchy so they won't be getting germs that way. No high chair germs to worry about and you'll have your own stroller so it'll be clean. Face them towards you in a carrier or a sling and you won't have people breathing all over them. They are just as fine as they would be when I help out in my DD's class party after he was born. Life goes on.

Also as far as loud noises, my DD's play and yell louder at home than most of those rides are. You can easily cover there ears for a while on certain things if need be. I never found it necessary except on Jungle Cruise where the gun shoots the hippos. He was asleep and didn't even jump when the gun shot. He had no clue as he was dreaming away.

I also hate the memory argument. I don't take my kdis for the memories. I take them because they love it there and so do I. Should I never take them anywhere before they are 5 or 6 in case they don't remember it? Should they not go to the park, movies, minigolf, water parks, birthday parties, DL and sit home for 5 years? If it's a once in a lifetime trip, I would probably wait a little. But if you will go more often, go, have fun, and make some memories for yourself!!! That first character interaction is priceless at that age, and the characteres LOVE babies!!!

Have a great time and don't let anyone scare you. You'll be fine!! Take lots and lots of pictures!

I have to disagree! We took our DD last year at Thanksgiving when she was18 months old and she absolutely loved it. She looks at the pictures everyday on the computer slideshow and proclaims how much she wants to go back to Disneyland so she can hug and kiss Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck. It's definitely more of a challenge to do Disneyland with a baby, but it's not impossible! If it's the only way to go to Disneyland, go for it!

Sure, i would LOVE to be a hermit! I would rather sit at home with my baby... We all believe taking a baby to Disneyland is a small risk. anything can happen, crowds there are just crazy... blah blah blah... anything can happen, i would rather wait. But what, she never said anything about taking her 1 month old baby, were talking about rides here.

All were saying is to have a fun time, but maybe find a babysitter at home. We never said to stay home and sit with the baby...

I think this kind of discussion probably goes on alot in the WDW forums. And I think the people on either side will always be on that side and there's no changing either persons mind.

But IMO. There's no wrong or right way to parents. Yes, many parents are happy saying home 'being hermits' for the first 6 weeks, months, YEARS. So what. More power to them. I personally don't see anything wrong with taking a young baby out in public, to DL, or on easy rides at DL. I see more harm with leaving a baby home with a bottle and a sitter then at DL nursing in a sling while standing in line for IISW.

I have friends that won't go on long car trips until their kids are a couple years old. Won't do hotel stays till their a couple of years old. Take their kids to their first in a theater movie at 6YO. That's not our family :rotfl2: to say the least. And that's what works for our family. I don't care if that's not how life works for someone else, more power to ya, but I think some of the comments in this thread are pretty harsh. What works for you may not be what works for someone else, and that doesn't make either 'side' a bad parent. Just different life choices, different parenting styles.

*** Sorry. Adding my funny little story. A friend and I were talking this weekend about running into people you know at DL. She said that when she saw me at DL a few years ago she was like 'OMG! WHY is she here PREGNANT! I would NEVER go to DL pregnant!' Only to find out a few days later that she herself was pregnant . Was a few weeks pregnant at DL ( I was about 5 months), and that life goes on . She's since gone to DL many times as a pregnant women herself. At the time (when we ran into eachother there) it seemed like the oddest, prossibly irresponsible thing she had ever seen, until she herself was in the position and she realized it's really not that big of a deal. A day at Disneyland is less work then a day at home ;) All your food is prepared for you, you get to sit down plenty, lots of things and people who want to entertian you. No big deal.

No one is judging anyone's parenting skills or labeling anyone a "bad" or "good" parent. Advice was asked for. Advice is being given (from both perspectives). I don't think we should read more into this than there is - someone was asking what we thought - that's all.

I just think it is not the best to take unimmunized infants out in crowds during cold, flu, RSV, and pertussis season. Babies die from RSV and pertussis - so why take the risk. That's all - just my opionion. Those of you that do - and have had no problems - that is a blessing.
