What rides might be scary for kids

It really depends on the kid. My four year old really wants to ride Dinosaur, but is scared of ToT (although she has never been on either because she was too short last trip). HM kind of scared her during our last trip. I won't take her on ITTBAB. FWIIW, I don't think Great Movie Ride is that scary. It has some scarier parts, but they don't last long. You don't ever really feel threatened. You are just riding through movie scenes.

I would avoid the 'big' rides like: Expedition Everest; Space Mountain; Big Thunder Mountain and Splash Mountain. On a spooky/frightening point of view, I would maybe pass on the Haunted Mansion and Pirates Of The Carribean and definately miss out Lilos Great Escape.

I think it depends on what scares your kid. My daughter LOVES thrill rides so the coasters are her fav, but even at 8, she cries at explosions so GMR and even Indiana jones had her in tears. At 4 she didn't like ITTBAB but at 7 she likes it. Kids are weird ;)

ITTBAB??

sorry! I don't know what this is!

It's Tough To Be A Bug at AK in the Tree if life. Bug's life show that can be intimidating and frightening to young children and in my case, phobic adults.

I haven't been in a while but it seems all times that I went, someone had to leave the show.

I have to sit on the edge of a seat due to a needle phobia which triggers anxiety during a surprise portion where there is a pretend sting. (The implement is nothing like a needle or stinger, but my phobia does not care.)

Ahhhhh! Thank you! I would have never figured that one out on my own.

My mother can't stand the fake sting either. She said she thinks about it the entire show and she too has to lean forward! I've never seen it!

I cried the first time. But now I just inch forward and have a good laugh at the surprises all the other guests get.

I'd say for really young ones (toddlers).. DARK rides like Haunted Mansion and Pirates and Stich would be terrifying.

I think rollercoasters (since they don't have the fear of terrifying drops yet) probably not as scary as one that are just "creepy" and could give a young one nightmares.

My DD5 loved Haunted Mansion...her favorite ride. But my DS9 wouldn't go on it...and also wouldn't go on Space Mountain as he didn't want a ride in the dark.

Not sure what is scary about Great Movie Ride

I think in all things.... let your kid decide :) I showed mine lots of videos of all the rides before we went so she had a plan in her head of what she WOULD and WOULD NOT do... and believe me.. she stuck to her guns lol

I haven't read this whole thread, so sorry if this has already been said, but I have two suggestions.

1) Start small and move up. Barnstormer before Big Thunder. Pirates before Haunted Mansion.

2) Preparing the child with youtube videos is a great option. When mine was little, he liked to know what was going to happen. So we watched youtube videos of a couple rides. That way, there were no scary surprises. We could go on The Great Movie Ride and he'd know "this is the alien scene, time to close my eyes."

Every child is different, but that's what worked for mine when he was young.

The only one that I would really say hell no to is Dinosaur. Also maybe Stitch. I find that super creepy for some reason. lol.

and my daughter would have fought you because she LOVED Dinosaur and Stitch :) so that is why I suggested watching all the rides via Youtube. She had a plan in her head... no matter how hard I tried to get her on Tower of Terror (because I think she would like it if she tried it - plus that would be a GREAT pic lol) .. she was ADAMANT that was a no lol

That's so funny, clambert!

Here's another interesting one. My son's favorite ride when he was 3 was The Haunted Mansion. He went on it again at age 4--TERROR. NON STOP TERROR AND CRYING. A year older! Then at 5 he loved it again.

I think the alien, and the shooting scene would scare her. To me it looks kind of boring anyway so no big deal to skip this one for us...

That's my plan, I'm going to lay out the touring plans now because I have to book FP's (she doesn't know about the trip yet) and include some things that she may or may not do, then once we tell her (about a month out) I'm going to go through the plans with her and we can decide what to add/delete, and what to watch videos of, etc.

This is a great suggestion! Pirates will be closed while we're there, so I might have to rely on YouTube for HM, but I love the suggestion, even for the roller coasters.

Agree with ITTBAB I went wiht my mom and the first thing we said was omg kid and kid 2 would have freaked out! We were so glad I listened to people here and didn't bring them. It was fun though. My kids did well Dd7 was 5 and 6 when we went, the haunted mansion was just on the edge of too much for her but we reminded her before going that it's all roe tend and talked about the robotics etc. Second trip she liked it. Same with pirates in the part where they fight and there is "fire" but she didn't freak out. What did freak her out was the small barnstormer roller coaster! She was excited to go then as soon as it got going the entire time she screamed I don't like it I don't like it and what felt like 30 second later when it was done she cried and said never ever again. You never know what bothers kids! Well, YOU know :)

You never know. My daughter loved TOT and the roller coasters but was scared on the great movie ride during the western part and won't go on that again.

Stitch terrified DS when he was 5 - we had to push the shoulder bars up and get out quick. We still won't go near it 7 years later.

And he absolutely loved Tower of Terror at the same age. He rode it repeatedly.
