The fantasy land landing point of the sky buckets....

Its up on the hill and it used to house the gondolas that go from Fantasyland through Materhorn to Tomorrowland. I think its called Skyway.

where else did you enter the skyway what building on the other side.

And yes that is the building I never went to disneyland till last year but my wife went as a kid and has been wanting to know differn't things.

Why did they get rid of the skyway I wanted to ride it the utube videos I watched looked like it was a nice relaxing ride to see everything from above.

The other side was over where Autopia is now, I am about 99% sure.

It was shut down because people were stupid, throwing stuff out, and rocking in the air etc. I have heard someone got hurt on either the one at DL or WDW as well. Too much liablity to have them basically.

that sucks we have a skyride like that here in utah but your feet hang out like a ski lift at the lagoon amusement park in farmington utah

One loading dock of the Sky Way was in Tomorrowland and the other loading dock was in Fantasyland. The Sky Way was one of the "affected by wind" things that it didn't run in the rain either.

But was one fabulous way to get across the park while resting those sore tootsies!! It was rather a thrill too, to have to step off the dock into the swinging ride vehicle!

Yes, the other station was between the Autopia and the Imaginations building, or whatever that waste of space is called. There was a mad hatter hat kiosk right below it.

The reason it was shut down was it was becoming increasingly harder for the ride to pass code and it was going to need a whole refurb which would have cost millions. At the time Mr. Eisner was in charge and he decided to go the easy route and just close the attraction, hoping nobody would notice.

I can remember as a kid hardly ever getting to ride that. Mainly because the lines were always a mile long. I think they couldn't get very many people per hour through it as well. Which might have been another reason they closed it.

If you ever make it to WDW go to the Disney Blizzard Beach water park. They have something similar. Instead of walking up the stairs to get to a couple of the bigger slides you can ride a ski lift up.:thumbsup2

The SKYWAY was awesome. It opened in 1956, and closed in the mid-90's. Yes, cost cutting was a big factor. ADA compliance nowawdays would make reopening it impossible.

Prior to the Mattherhon, there was just a large ugly support pillar on that site, but then when the Matterhorn was built, the SKYWAY went right through the middle of it! You can still see part of the cavern openings on both sides if you look carefully. They were closed up in the late 90's.

The station in Tomorrowland was above the restrooms/hat shop, east of the Autopia FP machines, attached to the Innoventions building. I fondly remember leaving that station, and just barely getting above the palm trees by the drinking fountain each time as we left for Fantasyland. I remember The station in Fantasyland had a farm-like display outside the windows on the southside, usually filled with straw and various wooden farming implements. There have been rumors of turning the Fantasyland station into a character meet & greet, or other such uses.

In the years after it closed, many of the Skyway buckets found their way onto eBay after it closed. One or two were painted with blacklight paint and used in the Rocket Rods pre-show line in the former CircleVision building that now houses Buzz Lightyear.

:goodvibes OTS master mason, but I have a pup (chocolate lab) that looks just like yours.....Her name is Cali (because I got her in california). She is now 5 months old!

:goodvibes

I never rode the skyway at DL, but did a whole lot at WDW and loved it. I was sad to see it go. I vaguely remember hearing that a worker died at DL (I think) when he got caught up on one buckets and fell. Is that a total myth or actual?

Also, for anyone who is buying a SoCal city pass, you can ride on a skyway. The San Diego Zoo has one!

Yes...it used to pass through a hole in the Matterhorn which is now covered over. I remember it well as a kid ... was a good way to get from one side of the park to the other (kinda like the Railroad is).

I miss that ride :(

Main article: Skyway (Disney)
On February 14, 1999, 65-year-old part-time custodian Raymond Barlow was mortally injured when he fell off the Skyway ride. He was cleaning the Fantasyland Skyway station platform when the ride was accidentally turned on. Barlow was in the path of the ride vehicles, and grabbed a passing gondola in an attempt to save himself. He lost his grip and fell 40 feet, landing in a flower bed near the Dumbo ride. He died shortly after being taken to a local hospital. The Skyway ride, which had been scheduled to be closed before the accident occurred, was permanently closed on November 11, 1999.[57] As a result of the accident, OSHA fined Walt Disney World US$4,500 for violating federal safety codes in that work area.

I still miss that ride very much. Each time we go, I walk past that 'building' and think of how fun it was. Memories ;)
