What ride freaked you out as a kid?

I'm a little claustrophobic, so I did not like 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea as a child or as an adult.

Me too, I cried and cried on 20,000 leagues! Goodbye, and good riddance!

I absolutely HATED the Haunted Mansion as a 7 year old scardey-cat in 1973. The Hitchhiking Ghosts wigged me right out. Poor Mom- she had to put up with me screaming in her ear for the entire ride. Of course, my big brother, who convinced me to ride, laughed at me the entire time- what a rotten kid he was :teeth: !

I am really surprised to hear I'm not the only one who was scared of PotC as a child! I totally thought the cannonballs were real, too! I went on it at DL when I was 5, and my mom still tells me to this day that I ruined the ride for our entire boat because I screamed and carried on so much.

Another afraid of HM as a child here! We went in 1973 when I was 4 and all I could remember was huddling behind my mother in the Doom Buggy and the "eye" wallpaper and the car tilting backwards. My next trip was when I was 21 with a friend from college on Spring Break. Of course, I wanted to experience it from a grown up perspective, but I clung to her a little as fear of the unknown set in. She couldn't stop laughing at me! Love it now!

As for my DS, he went through a HM non-riding phase, but at 6 he still won't ride Maelstrom. He hates the trolls!

I didn't like this either. The TOT still gives me the creeps, and the teacups make me nauseous. :stir:

From the beginning of the ride to the drop, after that I was fine. I used to beg my parents to leave me with a cast member and come back and get me when they were done with the ride but NO DEAL! I still get a little nervous on the drop even today and I'm almost 30.

Snow White's Scary Adventures. Back then, the "scary" wasn't in the ride title, so my mom took me on it. The witch scared me to death, I kept thinking about it later that night at the hotel. I went back on the ride in 2002 to conquer my fear, and it wasn't that bad, but then I heard they remodeled it and took out the really scary parts.

TTA!

And yes there is a story.

Long ago as a wee little lad, my mother (who enjoyed roller coasters in her younger years) convinced me to ride the Runaway Mine Train at Six Flags Over Texas. This is not a terribly scary roller coaster..very tame in fact. But for a 10 year old sitting in a car with his mother who was considerably bigger, the ride took on a new meaning. I had no bar holding me in place. I constantly felt as if I was going to be flung off the side. From that day on I avoided every potential roller coaster.

Fast forward 3 years. I am still not over the trauma of the coaster ride...and still feel my mother had betrayed me somewhat. We were in the Magic Kingdom and on the TTA. I was only partially paying attention when it was mentioned we would be traveling through Space Mountain. I knew that Space Mountain was a roller coaster. So I totally freaked thinking that my mother had betrayed me again and had tricked me to get on some demonic roller coaster. So I had a pretty good fit for a terrified 13 year old.

Went to Disney the first year it opened I believe I was 4yrs old. Snow White ride totally freaked me out as well as the Haunted Mansion. Took my kids and made the mistake of doing Space Mountain followed by Alien Encounter they were freaked out the rest of the trip asked before every ride if it was dark and scary. :earseek:

My list is long and embarrassing-...-Dumbo (the hight scared me)

OK, I'm gonna get the idiot of the message board award for my short and embarassing list. I join tina&jefffromtoronto in my fear of Dumbo. Was I afraid of the heights? Well, I might have been if I had raised my elephant at all.

I remember vividly seeing my older sisters way above me and wanted so desperately to do that too. I saw the black knob in front of me but, because nobody told me how the ride worked (I was only like four or five), I was too paranoid to fuss with the knob. I was so afraid that I'd get in trouble or I'd break the ride & worked myself into such a frenzy that I thought if I flipped the lever, there would be an explosion or something.

So, I rode the ride at ground level, looking like a total fool, and have been mercilessly (and deservedly) mocked by my sisters ever since. They still plead innocent, but I'm convinced that such a ridiculously dramatic reaction could only have been caused by a fearful idea planted by a cruel older sibling :). Honest, I wasn't a scaredy kid - loved adventure & crazy carnival rides, etc.

Anyway, I never made it back to DW until I was adult and have always craved a "do over" on Dumbo (but I'd probably look stupider riding at 40 than I did at five!)

You may now mock at will!

i was scared beyond crazy as a kid (about 7 or 8) on Snow White's Adventures. The wicked witch used to pop out ...it took me until I was an adult to go on it again and i clutched on to my poor hubbys arm for dear life. LMAO

at the end of the ride i thought "man i was a wimpy 8 year old" LMAO

of course it is more tame now. ;o)

Pirates of the Carribean! I rode it at Disneyland when I was six. When we went through the part of the ride where the pirates were shooting at each other, my aunt yelled "Duck!" I slumped down in the seat and covered my head w/ my hands. I was convinced that the pirates were shooting real bullets and I was scared I would get hit.

We have a video tape of me being freaked out by Figment! That ride wasn't scary I know, but since the Fig was in it, I was scared to death. I also was scared outta my mind when the first time I went on space mountain. Now it's one of my favorites. I think thats about it...don't remember being afraid of any others!

but I was always a little freaked out on "adventure thru inner space". The huge eyeball at the end was REALLY freaky to me!!! I would still ride it, but I was still freaked out!!! :magnify:

OMG, yes! I remember waiting in line and watching the display that showed the carts (with guests) getting smaller and smaller and then SHREDDING!! I was petrified and completely convinced we were doomed. :rotfl2:

CAPTAIN EO!!!! :lmao:

Seriously though, even today if I saw a 3-D Michael Jackson coming at me, I'd still be scared!!! :rotfl2:
