What restaurant suprised you the most?
Whether it be you weren't impressed or thought it was a dud only to find out it was wonderful?

Not that anyone really complains about it, but we were really surprised by how much we liked the food at Crystal Palace. Buffet food doesn't usually excite me that much but I thought they had some great choices. The salmon is out of this world and they have great coleslaw and curried salad that was wonderful.

I didn't go - but my sister (who is a pretty picky eater) really loved San Angel at Epcot and Tony's in MK - both of which usually get pretty crappy reviews.

That's my $ 0.02.

:)

Surprisingly Good. Tangierine Cafe (counter service). We are not CS people but the food here is amazing.

Surprisingly Bad. Yak n Yeti. People on here rave about it but we have tried it twice and I am not impressed.

We've eaten at almost every restaurant both TS & CS at Disney that we're even remotely interested in and the one that has surprised me the most is Kringla - the sandwiches there are awesome! And almost every place at DTD is very good too but the CS locations there are surprisingly good. Planet Hollywood is the one exception not worth the stop.

To the good: Wolfgang Puck Express. Great food at a counter service location

To the bad: Coral Reef. The atmosphere was lovely, the food was not.

I agree about dinner at the Crystal Palace. Great variety of food, and it's all delicious.

For me it was Tangierine Cafe. When you walk in & order there's nothing impressive - but if you go around the back to the left - past the pastry counter - there's a small alcove/room with 2 tables in it that overlook the Moroccan shops out back. I sat there (alone) and just took it all in. The combination of the delicious food with the Moroccan music was just incredible.

Very nice input. I like to hear what suprised everyone. I only have a week left to decide and get my lists in order to make ADRs. There are some places I thought might sound/look good that I had discounted when I made my first list.

Keep'em coming!!

Good - Wolfgang Puck Express - some of the best food I've had at WDW

Bad - Marrakesh - Awful Food. Pave over Morracco (sp?) and put in Australia.

Biggest Surprise was San Angel Inn in Mexico. It gets such bad reviews here on the DIS I was going to cancel our ADR's. It was a good meal, with good service

For us the good has been GF Cafe the first time it was breakfast the food was good service great & it was quiet. The 2nd time was dinner again as good breakfast. the fish I had at GF Cafe was better that the fish I had at Coral Reef eariler that week.

The bad was Capt Jacks at DTD. It was just icky.

The Good: California Grille-didn't think it would be worth the $$. I was wrong.
The Bad: Coral Reef-thought it would be an amazing meal and experience. Again, I was wrong.

Uh oh, sounds like Coral Reef is a place that leads to many disappointments.

I do have this on my list, don't know why I want to eat there. DH is dragging his feet on agreeing to it. I guess I may have to reconsider since it has been a suprising disappointment to many.

Again, keep'em coming.

Good - Wolfgang Puck Express. After seeing the menu, the food sounded good, but I was still surprised by exactly how good it was.

Bad - The Garden Grill. In theory, in sounded cool (slowly rotating restaurant, food from right on property). In practice, it was the worst dining experience I ever had at Disney.

I was surprise with the san angels inn in Mexico, well me and my dad order soup and it was weird but interesting, they bring u the bowl and then the server pours the stuff in there in front of u, and the soupwas really goood:D and the rest of the meal was yummmers and the atmosphere was just AWESOME, A+!!

Akershus.

I thought I would tolerate the food and enjoy the princesses.

Instead, the food was pretty darn good and the princesses were completely creepy.

:confused3

Ours was Tony's. We only booked there because we were meeting family and they had already booked it.
As it ended up, we got seated outside in the patio room and the parade came by while we were eating! My DH and DD rated their meals the second-best of the week, second only to the steaks they got at leCellier. I rate most food at WDW about the level of Applebee's (that is, not very good) and my meal at Tony's was excellent.
Very surprising because I had read all the negative reviews too. So that was a valuable lesson learned!

Surprisingly good: Sci-Fi for dinner. The shrimp pasta was outstanding and the onion rings were YUMMY!

Bad: I have two.

Mama Melroses. The food was HORRIBLE! I have had better Italian food out of a jar at home. Plus, what kind of Italian joint charges for bread sticks??

Whispering Cayon Cafe: Most horrible food I have ever had at ANY dining venue! We ordered the dinner skillet and the ONLY edible thing was the corn bread! We sent it back and asked for another batch and it was equally as disgusting! To add insult to injury, the bill for 2 people with no alcoholic beverages was $70+!!

NOTE: We have dined at the Coral Reef 3 times and are going back in October. We loved our food each time and the atmosphere is nice and refreshing after a hot day in the parks.

Sci Fi at DHS. The reviews were mediocre, but we wanted to give it a shot based on how much a friend of mine liked it. I'm do glad we did. It ended up being one of our favorite places. My 5 year old loved the food, the cars, the movies and my 2 year old enjoyed the freezing cold ac and dark. She laid her head on her high chair tray and had a very restful much needed nap. I highly recommend this place!

Great - Akershus - the app. buffet was amazing. So many great options. I could have eaten that as my entree. Entree was equally as good. Princess were great.

Bad - Garden grill - food was not good, seats are cramped. Never again.
