Hi guys and gals!

Im stayin at POR soon and have a spare day/night and we want a relaxin day. Thinkin of visiting a resort for a meal.

Which are worth a visit? We already are going to boma, so anything but that one please.

Would prefair somewhere we can go wearing casual clothes (shorts/tshirts). So nothing too posh!

thanks everyone!

edit - really dont want characters. never done a character meal, but the idea of snow white harassing me while i eat isnt my idea of a good time! :P

the grand floridian cafe is casual....it has good burgers...

there's the whispering canyon cafe at the wilderness lodge which is casual....it doesn't have characters but it does have things going on...

i like both of them, but they're very different...

'Ohana has really good food, and I agree with Whispering Canyon. Fun atmosphere and good food.

Boma at AKL - great buffet with some interesting flavours and a beautiful resort to explore.

Kona Cafe at the Poly was one of the best meals we've had anywhere on property.

Whispering Cafe at Wilderness Lodge is great fun if you are in the mood for it.

I'd start with Kona Cafe for breakfast. then to Beaches and Cream for a Kitchen Sink! at Lunch time. If you don't like being harassed, avoid Whispering Canyon (to me it sounds like a lot of fun though).

Dinner: I'd go to the Swan/Dolphin or Downtown Disney as all my favorites in the Resorts are Signatures and might be considered 'fancy'. Even so, there where ppl in shorts during dinner...

Considering you are staying at POR, I would highly recommend taking a leaisurely boat ride along the Sasagoula River to Olivia's at OKW. The food is reasonable, it's very relaxed and not too pricey (for Disney). I'd definitely ask for an outside table, as inside can be noisy. Sitting outside Olivia's of a warm evening and listening to the tropical-style music is a great way to spend an evening. Just please don't tell everyone :rolleyes1

I second the vote for Olivias - it often gets a slating on here, but we love the casula relaxed atmosphere.

Can anyone tell me what actually happens at Whispering Canyon please

Lots of fun things, some of which I've listed below.
(I've wrapped them in spoilers - highlight to read)

Ask for the ketchup - The server yells for ketchup and every bottle in the place is bought to your table by the kids in the restaurant.

Ask for more napkins or straws - You'll likely get showered in them all evening.

We've had small cutlery set on our table - and when we asked for larger they bought out 4ft forks!

There's also a Cast Member singalong and sometimes even a hobbyhorse race around the restaurant!

The food is good (and plentiful if you have the skillet!) and the milkshakes are delicious.
Just make sure you're in the mood for a boisterous atmosphere and you'll have a great time.

If you like princess stuff, 1900 park Fare at the Grand Floridian does a Cinderella and step family dinner (with Pricne Charming) that is good. Its a buffet.

Also, we like Jiko at Animal Kingdom. It is Signature dining so it is more $$$.

Whispering Canyon has great food and is fun!

I'd agree with everything said so far... but also add Il Mulino's and Shula's Steakhouse, which are located inside the Swan and Dolphin resorts by the Epcot resorts.

Shula's does some of the biggest and best steaks I've ever had inside Disney World, and Il Mulino's is simply a really good Italian. As people have already said, they are considered classy, but think you can still get away with shorts in there. It is a theme park, after all...

im surprised everyone said whispering canyon. so will definately give it a go.

never even heard of olivias before now! might give that one a go for breakfast. does the boat start that early?

Kona cafe, grand floridian cafe and chef mickeys are our favs, we are staying at okw this year so will try the restaurant there

Great food at Kona Cafe and Whispering Canyon Cafe :thumbsup2
Boma has a wonderful selection and really does have something for everyone
They are all very casual and fun restaurants
I haven't tried O'hana yet but will be doing so on our next trip
We like to go to the Poly in the evening as it's a great place to watch the fireworks from and grab something to eat at either Kona or Captain Cooks; it's a great CS option and you can get get Dole Whip for dessert :cloud9:
