We are a family of 3 and like the extra room when we travel. What one bedroom DVC rooms would you book over another?

BLT, AKVK, and VGC all have two full bathrooms in the 1BR villas. If that's important to you, you'd do well to choose one of those. The first two also have larger living spaces than the "second generation" DVC properties like BWV, BCV, and BRV. OKW's villas are largest of all, though they only have one bathroom.

We are planning a trip March 2024. Any idea when the refurbishments will take place?

Family of 5 - we bought at BLT for the 1 brs with a 2nd bathroom there. IMHO, that's about the best layout IF you need a second bathroom. For your family of 3, I don't think I'd make that such a big priority. So far we have enjoyed staying at CCV best, but we had to upgrade to a 2BR - 5 would not fit in the 1BR there.

One-Bedrooms in the DVC portfolio have various layouts with some crossover features. The main features you'll encounter are:

Dedicated Kitchen vs Galley Kitchen
(CCV, RIV, VDH, & POLY-2 in that latter category)

1.5 Bath vs 2 Full Bath
(AKV-Kidani, BLT, VGC, POLY-2 in the latter category)

Murphy Bed in Living Room vs Pull-Out Couch
(OKW, HHI, VB, BWV, AKL, BLT, VGC, CCV are in the latter category. I expect in 2 years, only OKW and VB will be without Murphy Beds)

Rooms that Sleep 5 vs 4
(AKL-Value & CCV in the latter category)

Rooms with recent updates vs Rooms needing refurbishment
(Subjective, but BWV, HHI, BLT, VGC, & AKL in the latter category)

Rooms that require more points to book vs Rooms that require fewer points to book
(OKW, SSR, BWV, AKL can be in the latter category depending on the booking category)

Room Views & Resort Location can play a role too in how you enjoy your room. My advice is to figure out which of these features (if any) are important to your family, which resort location works with your vacation preferences, and work outwards from there (dining, balcony views, etc).

In addition to the extra full bath, the 1BR at BLT and Kidani have both a fold out couch (sleeps 2) and a fold out chair (sleeps one) in the living room. My dad, who was 84 at the time, found the sleeper chair very comfortable.

Honestly for me, with 3 people, it would be most important to have a 1-bedroom with the pulldown Murphy bed. I won't sleep on the couches.

Location is most important for us so that is RIV and VGF. Now that they have the Murphy beds and not sofa beds it’s a big plus

But, BLT having the extra bathroom is really nice!! Once it’s renovated, it will be even better

Looking forward to the new Poly tower having the second bedroom in those 1 bedrooms.

for just 3 people, I would pick the Riv. Love those rooms. Love the skyliner to 2 parks. Love Bar Riva.

The alternate layout 1 bedrooms at BWV are hands down our favorite. Followed by (believe it or not) Jambo house because the bathroom is NOT attached to the bedroom. I have this fear of someone opening the door from the bathroom into the bedroom but I did notice at Vero this summer you could lock the door from the bedroom side. That has not been the case in any other one bedroom we've stayed in (HHI, SSR, BCV, BWV and RIV).

What do you mean by best, location size, view ….
‘personally, for me it could mean different things….
‘if we are staying in a one bedroom, most likely it just my wife and I

that means RIV or SSR …
because we enjoy Epcot and the springs…

not sure if either of those would be good for 3 people ….

As of today.... we have to add 1 more to this list :)

VDH also has 2 bathrooms in the 1BR. So awesome that both Disneyland Resort DVC have this.

For the OP question. When you jump up to the 1BRs you have tons of good options. We love the rooms at Riviera and we think they are the highlight of the resort. That would be high on our list if you are looking at WDW.

Kidani would also be a great choice if a 2nd bathroom is something you desire but it has a downside of not yet having either of the murphy bed options in the room. Animal Kingdom Lodge is such an awesome resort. Plus really easy to book into for the most part.

We love CCV but we prefer to jump up to a 2BR for our family of 4 there. The great point chart makes it not too painful. Downside is no murphy in the 1BR and they are smaller rooms.

SSR would be on my list if looking for value. We like the rooms there and you get the murphy beds.

And of course, both Disneyland Resort are awesome. Grand Cal would be my favorite but VDH is looking amazing.

Riviera , absolutely love the one bedrooms and the resort as a whole, big time points though

Just returned from 4 nights at VGF and then 4 nights at RIV in 1 bedrooms…I’ve also stayed at pretty much all the Orlando DVC resorts and Grand Cali…always a 1Br or larger. For me, it’s a mix of location and resort ambiance that determine ‘best’…so that means my WDW 1br favs are the Grand and Beach Club…unless you’re talking Christmas time - then it’s Wilderness/Boulder.

VGF 1BRs are just beautiful. They have other touches the rest of DVC does not, like robes, room service, and IMO nicer mattresses. The details, for example, the tile work in BLT and VGF is not even in the ballpark. The living room has a Murphy queen and a Murphy twin, much nicer than the aging BLT beds which desperately need to be renovated. We also prefer the VGF pool to BLT.

The one bathroom is a drawback, but maybe not a huge deal with three people.
