I'm one of only three Buddhists on the board. Three? Only three? :hippie:

United Methodist

I am actually a certified clergy candidate. I am completing undergrad coursework and will then attend seminary.

God Bless.

I'm more spiritual than religious. Organized religion doesn't make much sense to me. I don't believe in Creationism, so that kind of screws any Western belief. I think a lot of Eastern concepts are interesting. I believe that there is sort of an oversoul, like the brahman in Hindu... a general spirit that is all around us, but not necessarily making any decisions. Just sort of a life power. I think that Western thought has raised humans to a supreme level, but I think humanity in general is foolish and makes bad decisions, and that we are no better than elephants or ants or trees. I guess I just think a lot about everything. I'm proud of that, though.
When I have children, I would like to raise them in a Unitarian Universalist type of church... one that recognizes the value in all religions, and allows for many beliefs and theories. I want my kids to know what facts and thoughts are out there, and allow them to be fully educated so that when they are mature enough, they can make a decision on what to believe.

Practicing Jew (Reform denomination)...DF is a non-practicing Lutheran and would probably describe himself as agnostic. We are planning on creating a Jewish household and raising our children as Jews.

Isn't that translated as, "Hear O Isreal, the Lord our God, the Lord is one."??

The Shema is the Jewish statement of our belief in G-d. The translation I have is: "Hear, O Israel: the Eternal One is our G-d, the Eternal G-d alone!" (taken from The Gates of Prayer, an egalitarian book) It is a very important piece of Jewish life, not just during the liturgy. princess:

practicing roman catholic. DD made her first communion this morning. It was a wonderful service.

I chose 'Christian'.

I was Christened as a baby.

Now I think of myself as a Quaker (which probably had its early roots in Christianity), although I'm not 'practicing'.

An agnostic is on the fence about whether God exists. They think "maybe, maybe not." Athiests are absolutely positive that God does not exist. :)

I live the new tv spot for the UMC- the one where people are "ejected" from a church and ends with "God does not reject anyone". I thought it was such a cool ad!

I am a lapsed Catholic with a deep interest in many religions. Those that resonate with me the most are Unitarian Universalism and Zen Buddhism.

I love meditating, praying, reading, learning, etc. and any religion that would be a good fit for me would have to allow/encourage learning and exploration and self discovery, which both UU and ZB do. It would also have to focus on works rather than faith, because I believe it is natural to question, not a sin. I believe that what counts is what you do.

I also am very interested in the possibility of reincarnation since I have experienced a few things which have made me accept it as a strong possibility. I still enjoy the ritual/history of Catholicism but there are too many things I do not agree with and I do attribute part of my insecurity/neuroses to my Catholic education.

I am Christian. I was born and raised Catholic, strayed from the church for years and now I am a United Methodist Pastor's Wife :confused3 ...God surely has a sense of humor! :rotfl2:
