Thats is what they gave me 1st, they assured me it would work with the online ADR system, I wasn't convinced so I asked for my US res number which they gave me.
Hopefully it will work for you.
People have posted on here that they have used either for ADRs. The CM who gave me mine this year clearly knew what she was talking about (sometimes you just know that you have someone who does) and she said either can be used for ADRs but there are other things the 12 digit one is used for. You are not likely to have a problem. If the worst came to the worst, just make sure you have the phone number to make your ADRs an hour later.
Let us know how you get on. Hope you get everything you want.
Hope all went well today for you, we did ours this morning so I tried the 9 digit reference number - 3 letters and 6 numbers, worked no problem. I had to ring to book the Fantasmic package so gave my 12 digit US number for that one, again worked no problem so you can use either.
Thank you for asking Wayneg that's so sweet of you. We tried the 9 digit code but it didn't work. I called Disney UK the lady was really kind she rang another department and was able to give me a 12 digit number. So ADR's have been booked!!....Going to put them onto our spreadsheet tomorrow...
We didn't know if we should book as reservation on the day we attend to visit Universal Studios.

I thought you would have no trouble after I could use mine, glad you got it sorted.
For Universal day it depends how long you intend to stay there, we get to parks for opening and come out mid afternoon but we have had Annual passes for about 6 or 7 years so no reason to stay in late, we come out go back to our resort and then out for a meal early evening. If you intend staying at Universal all day there is plenty places to eat up there, we had a really nice meal in Finnegans last year.
Erhhhhh.....just went to change a time of a booking at Chef Mickey but not been able to access my reservation with the 12 digit no. tried the 9 just incase but no luck. Just called the Dining Reservation the CM has informed me that our dining reservations are there but our Resort reservation had been cancelled!!! on hold in panic hold....Managed to log out the US Site and login back in on UK site to manage booking the reservation is still showing...been 22 mins. on hold.
I managed to get back in. Apparently it was to do with the amendment that I'd made on Saturday through Disney UK. The US guys were working on their system update on the email received request from UK reservations for the change.
