Hello, do you just need to book a room at a Disney hotel to get Magical Express, or do you need to buy a hotel/tickets package to get free transport to and from the airport? Thanks!
Flying into or out of MCO isn't a requirement. Having a Disney Resort Reservation is the only requirement. DME goes to/from MCO and the Resorts. How you get to/from MCO is irrelevant. Getting there by foot, bicycle, car, or camelback all work.

Well that would be pretty stupid in my opinion to do any of those things.
You might as well walk, drive, take an uber... from where ever you do arrive in the Orlando area to your resort vs the hassle of going to the airport just to take DME.
My point was that DME is only offered at MCO. Meaning if you fly into Sanford don't count on hopping on a DME thee.

Well I am not stupid and I have used DME to get back to MCO from our resort without a flight. We picked up a rental car and continued on with our vacation, we didn't need the rental at WDW and it was cheaper to rent from the airport.

FWIW, we've also used DME when not flying. We were on a cruise and had cruise line transportation booked to and from MCO. The cruise line drove us from Port Canaveral to MCO, and then we opted to get on DME from there. On another trip, we needed to pick up a rental car and drive to New Smyrna Beach. MCO was essentially on the way, and the best car prices were from the airport at that time.
Just saying there's a variety of reasons when it makes sense to utilize DME, considering its no-cost-added transportation.

You book through Disney, either when you make your resort reservation or you can call DME directly as well (sorry I don't have the direct # handy).
You can also make the DME reservation online if you have your resort reservation # https://secure.reservations.disney.go.com/ibcwdw/en_US/dme/dmeform
