What proof does your school require to register?

Of course you do. You just have to use something else to show proof of residence. (gas bill or electric bill)

Some schools won't accept rental leases, phone bills or cable bills.

What if you live with a friend and none of the bills are in your name? :confused3

Then your friend has to write a letter stating that you live with them. The letter has to be notarized. You then take the letter, a bill which has to be in the friend's name, the child, and all the other forms that are needed to register your child.

I don't think we need SS# - at least we didn't when I transfered my boys in 3 years ago.
They are real sticklers about the proof of address around here. They specifically asked for a utility bill. We are on well & septic so it had to be electric. (Cable didn't count.) We are in a sought after school district.

Well, he's all registered! Four down...one to go!! ;)

I was reminded that I dislike filling out all of the school's paperwork more than gathering all of the other info together. There are, I kid you not, 3 of the exact same forms with the exact same info on each one plus 2-3 other front and back pages to fill out.

He also had to be evaluated...not for placement...so they say. The counselor who talked with Zachary said he seemed very bright and that he (with raised eyebrows) really thought "out of the box" on some things. I asked if that was a good thing and she just raised her eyebrows higher and gave a stiff laugh. I don't know what that was all about. As soon as we got in the car I asked him what they had talked about and guess what his answer was...."I already forgot". Oh, well. :confused3

Wow - I am amazed at all the posters who need a SS# for registration. Isn't anyone concerned about identity theft at all?

Our state, not the school districts, require that student names match SS#. We must also record the students' middle names. I have no idea why on the middle name)

NCLB requires schools to accept homeless students and provide transportation. Those families who live with friends or with other family members are considered homeless in our state and I believe this may also be part of NCLB.
