This is not meant to turn into a debate or slamming or mud throwing, so please don't make it be so. I just though I'd share.

I am from a small town, 3500 people. We've had people that were sent to the war to finght, but again, it's a small town. There was one young man who was deployed. He was 20 years old. He felt it was his duty to go over and fight for his country. I didn't personally know him because he's about 10 years younger than me. I graduated with his brother, and I also remember him coming into the grocery store I worked at in high school. He comes from a very nice family.

Anyway, he was killed in combat a few months ago. Very hard for our small town. I don't believe his family is bitter, but rather very proud of their son for what he did.

Just recently they were at a farm show that President Bush also happened to be attending. Somehow President Bush met up with this family. When he saw the mom he stated that she must be the mom, and he gave her a hug. He then took the family to a private area and they talked for twenty minutes or so. President Bush asked the family if there is anything they can do to let him know. The father mentioned the fact that he knew of another solder that was killed, but not in combat. This soldier was given higher honor or "status" (sorry. I can't think of the word I want to use). President Bush told the family that he would take care of it.

Just thought I'd share. I thought it was a wonderful story.

Thanks for sharing - President Bush is an awesome man - Four More Years!!!!

It is nice to have a president that is truly caring and compassionate. It is nice to hear of the GOOD stories. Thanks for telling it.

Before this thread devolves into a debate (because you know it will), just wanted to say - Great Story! Thanks for sharing.

That's a good thing he did there...:)

That was a very kind and noble thing to do for that family. Yes, this is coming from a Democrat. W is very personable and I have seen many instances where he has extended himself for others. Thank you for sharing that.

Thank you for sharing this great story....we all owe a dept of gratitude to the people and families that serve. It is nice to hear again of the great compassion of our president. He is a great man.

That is a good story. And thats coming from someone who isn't sure who she is voting for yet.

I have never been a fan of his public speaking abilities, but I definitely respect his candor on an individual basis. He reaches out to small towns. I'll never forget the Thanksgiving photo with the troops in Afganistan. A similiar story to yours happened in a small town in the county south of here earlier this year.

Thanks for all of the positive replies. It's great that this was not made into a debate.

On Easter he and the whole Bush clan came to our hospital to meet w/some injured soldiers and their families. Everyone said they were wonderful and very genuine esp the former Pres and wife.

Thank you for posting this. I have heard and read of many acts of kindness by President George W. Bush. :D

GREAT story! Thanks for sharing. You just don't hear the good stories enough. The news only seems to shows the bad stuff. :(

My DH was lucky enough to meet Bush 41 on Thanksgiving in the first Gulf War!! Can I share? ;)
