What others pay

I think calling someone judgmental is pretty judgmental.

I think it's judgmental to call someone judgemental when that person just called YOU judgmental!!

:dance3::dance3::dance3:

JUST kidding...Thought I'd inject some levity back into the thread!:thumbsup2

Bothers me? No, just surprised at how much someone would spend on ice cream.

I think calling someone judgmental is pretty judgmental.

I'll admit that I love ice cream and I only eat HD5 or Blue bell cookie dough. At Publix it cost $6.99 for a half gallon:eek: and I usually buy 2 at once:rolleyes1. At the commissary it cost $4.19 but that is way across town when I'm not at work. I'll pay the $6.99 BEFORE driving all the way over there for it:rolleyes1. My choice though!

I get on to DH for doing this all the time. We live in the boonies. There is one little country store about 5 minutes away. Convienent but EXPENSIVE. For years, there wasn't much choice and we paid those prices if we just had to have something (but it had to be an emergency). Now there is a Dollar General about 10 minutes away. DH still goes to the country store and pays $$$$. Drives me NUTS.

And he does it just because he doesn't want to be bothered to drive that little bit further to get whatever it is. :headache:

As for the OP being judgemental, I don't think she was at all. Sometimes I get behind someone at a store and am shocked at what they are willing to pay for something. I don't CARE if they buy it, that is strictly up to them, just shocked that it actually costs that much.

Flame suit is on.

I pay $15/pint to have Graeter's shipped to me from Ohio.

You just can't come between a menopausal woman and her ice cream.

Just last week I paid $4.99 for 12 pack of diet Coke at the Meijer gas station when I KNOW I could have purchased a 24 pack in the Mejier grocery store for $6.99.

I was in a hurry and promised DH I'd pick up some diet Coke.

I agree, you were not judging, just commenting about something you saw. I don't mind these posts at all OP, something to chat about. Plus everyone, we are on the budget board aren't we? btw I cringe when I have to pay over $2.50 for 1/2 gallon of ice cream.

First I cringe about the price.

Then I get really annoyed that a "half gallon" of ice cream is now 1.5 pints.

:thumbsup2 It seems like all the ice cream companies changed this at the same time and thought no one would notice! It probably worked for many since the packages look about the same size.

Well, kind of OT,but I've noticed when I shop at Jewel in the early afternoon and the seniors are shopping, everyone's cart is filled with liquor.Wine, gin,Wild Turkey, you name it! Thought it was kind of crazy, until I realized that those are probably a cheap painkiller. No judgement here.

Eeh, to each his own. Yes I hate paying too much for something. But sometimes convenience is worth the extra.

My husband has bought batteries at gas station prices on Christmas day before.

Maybe the gas station was easier, he could park out front and run in instead of parking halfway out to the street in the lot of the grocery store and stand in line for 15 minutes.

I was in the gas station last night and had to pick my jaw up off the ground when the man ahead of me paid $4.59 each for a pint of ice cream (he bought 2). I couldn't believe the cost and I couldn't believe that people are willing to pay it. This was not some gas station out in the middle of nowhere. There's a major grocery store chain less than 1/2 mile down the road. He could have gotten a gallon of ice cream for less than he paid for one pint. :scared1: :confused3

Hey as a person who loathes, hates and despises supermarkets, I can totally relate to the gas station run. I have paid 5-6 bucks for a gallon of milk at the stop and go to simply avoid the supermarket. It's always crowded, the 15 and under line is the slowest line known to man.

When we want ice cream, we get Ben & Jerry's at Wawa (convenience store like 7-11 if you are not familar). Or in the summer go to the ice cream parlor for a sundae (about the same price).

In our house a 1/2 gallon would take so long to eat it would get freezer burn and get tossed. Then, that is wasted money.

I'd rather spend a little more for stuff I like. Ice cream is not an everyday run of the mill snack for us. So $4.50 is money well spent for a true treat. Eating more ice cream that we don't get as much enjoyment out of just because it is less $$ per unit just doesn't work for me (or my waistline!)

Occasionally they will go 2/$6 at the grocery, but that is very rare.

I used to work at 7-11 in NY. On Christmas, people were buying anything and everything. I easily cashiered at least $10K on one shift. It was sad watching people desperately buying gifts at a 7-11 store for their kids, loved ones, etc. Believe me, they were paying for that convenience.

I don't blame you. Graeters is totally worth it! :thumbsup2 Luckily, I can get it locally. :goodvibes

MMM, Why does this matter? If they can afford it and don't feel like saving the money who cares? It's their wallet.

Ot- but last time we went to WDW we rented a minivan. In the shuttle over to the cars, somehow a conversation started about what everyone paid for their rental. I am an avid budget boarder and got a great price... my husband mentioned our weekly rate and everyone else was
