About 6 wks ago,we recieved notice from the HOA that they were going to hold a meeting to discuss and vote on amendments to the CC&Rs. Some of the amendments made sense, like picking up your dog's poo when you walk him/her. Others, like not allowing signs of any kind in your yard or not allowing artificial anything (flowers, etc)to be displayed in/on your property, made no sense. The amendment discussing the artificial flowers was extremely vague and made it sou nd like not only were you NOT allowed to 'plant' fake flowers in your flower bed, but you weren't allowed to hang an aritifical wreath at Christmas either.

DH was extremely ticked off by some of the amendments proposed by the HOA and created a flyer stating his viewpoint and why the homeowners should vote NO, which he made hundreds of copies of and spent his free time for the last 3-4 weeks driving around the neighborhood and distributing to just about everyone. He also made two signs stating the date, time, place and the words VOTE NO to put out at the front of the subdivision yesterday morning (meeting was last night).

Normally at an HOA meeting, there's very little turnout and it's just a lot of arguing over minutiae that accomplishes nothing. I had to stay home with DS but DH said there was a HUGE turnout, partially due to his flyer. He talked to a lot of people who said they wouldn't have come if it weren't for him. They realized that they DO make a difference and that if they band together against the HOA nazis, they can get rid of them or at least force them to make rules that make sense.

Whoohoo! I am so proud of him. He's getting so involved in the community. Earlier this year, he joined the city Planning and Zoning board and now he's thinking of running for a spot on the HOA board when that comes up. Who knows where this will lead? Town Council? City Mayor? I can't wait to find out.:teeth:

Congrats to your husband! This is a reminder we all need - especially in an election year!

Way to go!

I should've known he'd end up doing something like this. Civil service is something he's very, very familiar with. All throughout HS he was part of the student body council. :)

Maybe one day...he'll run for senator!Wouldn't that be a hoot? :teeth:

very cool!

We must live in the same HOA ;) Ours try to pass the same crap ( no yard sale or OPEN HOUSE signs!! ???? )
I wonder who these people actually are?

I know what ya mean binny. DH created a Hotmail account just for this project and put the addy on all the flyers. One person emailed him back and was very  that DH thought that the sign amendment was stupid. The emailer said, and I quote, "Why ruin our already *blank*y grass with signpost holes?"

thats not even their point here you cant even set out a sign here!!

Not even a half fold sign that just sits on the grass! Or tape a sign on a fence post or a street sign You cannot have ANY signs period!! Whats the point? If I want to sell my house I would think an open house would certainly help and By golly Im going to do it! if they tried to take down a sign pointing in my direction there would be heck to pay I can tell you that!

LOL...go get 'em binny. Kick their silly bottoms!:teeth:

DH was afraid the HOA board would see his signs and take them down but they didn't. They remained in place until he went this morning before work to collect them. :) Technically, according to the city signage code, you can't put signs like that up on public property but there's not really anybody going to say anything unless you don't take them down after the event (garage sale, birthday party, whatever) is over.

LOL! Sorry can you tell the issue is really bothering me? ;)

It's ok. :) Being extremely ticked off at the HOA nazis is what got DH motivated to rally others against them in the first place.

Good for him. :)

Did they vote on any of the issues?

They did but there were SO many votes/proxies to be counted they didn't have time to count them all last night. DH says we should know the results in a few weeks.
