About 6 wks ago,we recieved notice from the HOA that they were going to hold a meeting to discuss and vote on amendments to the CC&Rs. Some of the amendments made sense, like picking up your dog's poo when you walk him/her. Others, like not allowing signs of any kind in your yard or not allowing artificial anything (flowers, etc)to be displayed in/on your property, made no sense. The amendment discussing the artificial flowers was extremely vague and made it sou nd like not only were you NOT allowed to 'plant' fake flowers in your flower bed, but you weren't allowed to hang an aritifical wreath at Christmas either.
DH was extremely ticked off by some of the amendments proposed by the HOA and created a flyer stating his viewpoint and why the homeowners should vote NO, which he made hundreds of copies of and spent his free time for the last 3-4 weeks driving around the neighborhood and distributing to just about everyone. He also made two signs stating the date, time, place and the words VOTE NO to put out at the front of the subdivision yesterday morning (meeting was last night).
Normally at an HOA meeting, there's very little turnout and it's just a lot of arguing over minutiae that accomplishes nothing. I had to stay home with DS but DH said there was a HUGE turnout, partially due to his flyer. He talked to a lot of people who said they wouldn't have come if it weren't for him. They realized that they DO make a difference and that if they band together against the HOA nazis, they can get rid of them or at least force them to make rules that make sense.
Whoohoo! I am so proud of him. He's getting so involved in the community. Earlier this year, he joined the city Planning and Zoning board and now he's thinking of running for a spot on the HOA board when that comes up. Who knows where this will lead? Town Council? City Mayor? I can't wait to find out.
