Has anyone else read the fine print for entering YOMD giveaway? Under number 3, Winner Selection & Verification Process, section d. says that if you are a resident of Canada you may have to answer a mathmatical question correctly without any help (mechanical or otherwise) to be eligible or claim your prize. What?!?! :earseek: :earseek:

In Canada they do not allow sweepstakes. So, Disney is using a test of knowledge(of sorts), so that Canada residents can participate. Lori

they always do that little rule for our friends to the north. like whats 2+2?

:thumbsup2 Glad Disney takes care of our neighbors to the north!
I'm just glad they don't ask some of the people around here any math questions.

This may date me, but I keep getting an image of Chevy Chase as President Ford in the debate saying "I was told there would be no math" (first season of SNL)

Yeah, generally the question is like 1+1= ? or 2+2=?

I always found it ridiculous that Canadian residents had to be subjected to something like this, even though the prize and contest originate outside Canada.

Yes they ask us a skill testing question, but we pay no taxes on any prizes won here in Canada. So if I won a Million dollars( I can only hope), all of it is mine. A small price to pay for not having to pay taxes on prizes!

There has been worldwide concern over the Canadians' math skills as of late. This is just a small test to ensure that if they were to win a considerable amount of money they wouldn't spend it all on maple syrup and hockey. I for one think it is a great policy! :rotfl:

Despite what some posters have suggested, the skill testing math question is usually somewhat more difficult than 1+1 or 2+2. I was describing this very phenomenon to our babysitter last week and suggested to her (she is in grade 8) that Grade 8 math and skill testing questions are the only places in the world where knowing the mathematical theory of "BEDMAS" will come in handy.

All the skill testing questions I have ever seen inevitably incorporate all mathematical operations of addition, subtraction, division and multiplication with a few brackets thrown in for good measure.

I would definitely do some math if I could avoid paying taxes on a prize! Are there any second chances or partial credit on the problem?

I don't understand how doing a math problem correctly negates the fact that Canada doesn't allow sweepstakes. I am confused!

That is right - we need to answer skill testing mathmathical questions! They are usually very easy though. Wouldn't it be cool if a Canadian won the grand prize? I highly doubt that!

I believe it is because prizes can not be given purely by chance.....

Yeah, but does the answer have to be in Metric? ;)

That would stand for "Brackets, Exponents, Division, Multiplication, Addition, Subtraction," right? I was taught "Please Excuse My Dear Aunt Sally," for "Parentheses, Exponents, Multiplication, Division, Addition, Subtraction." I think that the Aunt Sally mnemonic is funny and easy to remember. Just sharing what I learned here "south" of the Canadian border. :)

Hey - I never learned that Aunt Sally thing! Maybe that is why I did so badly in math! I have to remember that for my kids!
