What not to wear!!

I won't, don't worry. I'll be too focused on feeding my hungry baby and not on random gaping onlookers who are staring so intently at me and my son sitting on a bench in the shade that they happen to catch a 2 second glimpse of my breast as my son latches on or off. :)

But it might be time to have a chat with your son about basic manners...or heaven forbid a real conversation about the difference between skimpy booty shorts/cleavage revealing bikini tops/bared midriffs and the act of feeding a human child. :)

You mean basic manners like covering exposed body parts? :confused3

It is her right to nurse her baby anywhere that she could otherwise bottle feed her baby. Just as it is your right to be there.

I do raise my eyebrows at the way some women choose to nurse and I understand that you don't want to see my breast. I generally don't use a cover, and I would estimate that 90% of people don't realize I am nursing and 100% of people can't see my breast. And I do not nurse a squirmy acrobatic toddler in public by my own choice unless it is completely unavoidable bc it is stressful and not fun.

It is good for your preteen to see women nursing (not exposing their breast in an unnecessary display of flesh of course) because it reinforces the actual biological necessity of breasts and normalizes breast feeding for an entire generation. Hopefully today's teens won't be embarrassed when they notice a woman feeding her baby. It's not embarrassing, it's natural and normal.

"Look, point and laugh," are you for real? Do you live in some completely closed-off alternative society where people behave that way?

Florida law was posted here, and it is the same most everywhere.

We took our kids to nude beaches in the Caribbean numerous times because it's NATURAL, opting to allow them to develop normal feelings around the human body.

Grow up.

What amazes me are the shoe choices. I saw heels, very high wedge sandals, leather (to the knee) boots, people who really need a ton of support wearing $5 flip flops from Walmart. I would cringe just thinking about how uncomfortable people must have been. The best investment I make for my family going to Disney is good quality footwear!

My very first trip to Disney I KILLED my feet in sneakers. I was a restaurant manager that wore heels 10-15 hours a day on my feet. You don't sit a lot as a restaurant manager. So I would have been better off in my heels I was used too.

And now, as a stay at home mom, I live in my flip flops so that is what I wear in the parks. Learned my lesson the firs time in wearing shoes not familiar to MY feet.

Ok I'll see your "exposed body parts and skimpy outfits at the parks" and I will raise you?......."flash photograpy on dark rides" and "shoving MY kid in front of you just before a parade"popcorn::

It's sad really that people have lost sight of what breasts were actually made for....feeding children. People act as if there are nipples hanging out all over when women are nursing. I see more breast at any beach or in half the advertisements out there than I do from a nursing mom.

My only experience with someone breast feeding was a woman who chose to feed her baby in a smoking area near the Swiss Family Robinson attraction. She expected everyone- +/-15 people- to stop smoking. We laughed at her and pointed out other places she could go.

This topic shouldn't even be a topic on these boards! It is what it is and it happens, some of you agree some of you don't, point being- with people being on two different sides of this you will not see eye to eye so why talk till your blue in the face? Everyone's opinions are to each their own and typically aren't going to change their thoughts regardless of the comments you make. Hopefully the mods will close this discussion soon enough, there are other sites you can argue this topic on, not the dis boards. These boards are for Disney advice not to bicker over breastfeeding. Night all.

Thank you. You Rock and you saved me a whole bunch of typing :thumbsup2

Darn it.....I've got nothin, I should have gone with the *scooters* and strollers running over toes" and "adults giving up there seats for kids on Disney buses or Maybe I could have raised with "swimming at another resort's pool" or "refillable mugs". Either way...i've got nothin':confused3

It's your right to feed your infant child, it's my right to be able to walk around the parks without seeing it. There are baby centers around, why people feel the need to nurse their baby wherever they want? A little decorum never hurt anyone.

Umm because not every baby waits until they are magically right beside or inside a baby center to decide they are hungry? Did it every occur to you that maybe said person was from a different country where they aren't as uptight as the US is about breastfeeding?

Welcome to Florida! We do dress skimpy here. Current trend is high waisted shorts with a "bikini" cut exposing butt cheeks!

As far as sports bras, yep probably was a sports bra or some sort of crop top or bandeau, that is also the trend. Disney has a very diverse group of visitors so you will see various style of clothing. It is more conservative than Bush Gardens.

No, I mean basic manners like not ogling (your word, not mine) a woman feeding her baby.

And to what "exposed body parts" are you referring? Because I'm fairly certain that 99.99999% of nursing moms aren't walking around topless. Are you referring to that tiny sliver of areola (can I say that word, or did it send you into a fit or girlish giggles?) that you might glimpse for .2 seconds if you happen to be staring directly at a nursing mom while the baby unlatches?

I think you and I must just have a different definition of manners. ;)

I'm guessing you aren't ever going to have conversation with your son that I mentioned earlier?

Wait, you took your kids to nude beaches? Were you nude on these beaches with them? That's an interesting way to teach a child about good body images. I've never heard anyone doing that.

It would be nice to think that at WDW, there is a high level of tolerance for mothers feeding children.

Infants are supposed to be fed on demand, and not when it is convenient to either the mother or the strangers standing around her. Not all infants will accept being covered--my DD was one who wouldn't.

Is it acceptable parenting to let an older child ogle or point at a woman breastfeeding? I think not.

Because no matter now natural and beautiful breastfeeding is to people who are all about it, the fact of the matter is to most teenage boys breasts are sexual stimuli. Sorry if you find that offensive or immature but thats the way it is.

To respond to the thread though I agree! I got right behind a girl with straight up butt cheeks hanging out of a pair of jean shorts/thong. I do NOT want to see everyone's butts no matter how toned and shapely it may be. Lol!

That's all good but don't take offense when my son ogles your breasts. :rotfl2:

Gee, I can't imagine where your son gets his views of breasts and breastfeeding from. :sad2:

Back to the original point of this thread, I am another one who cannot understand the footwear some people choose. My mom works for a foot doctor, so it's a common topic of discussion. We went to our local theme park about three weeks ago and it was about 89 degrees with a heat index of something in the mid 90's. There was this one particular lady who was wearing skinny jeans, calf-high leather boots with stiletto heels and one of those cut-off jean jackets over her shirt. She also had her mid-back length jet black hair worn down. I can't even imagine how incredibly hot she must've been. I was wearing shorts and a t-shirt and I was sweating.

And then there are the people on the total other end who might as well be naked... There is a lady who used to come in my work ALL THE TIME (she had a thing for an employee who was NOT interested, she never comes now that he has moved on...) and she was 'pooh sized' with quite large breasts and she would wear these tiny, skimpy sundresses with no bra. Either spaghetti straps or strapless. One particular outfit was a belly-baring tube top and super short shorts made from hot pink terry cloth.:scared1:

I always have to wonder if someone told them that looked good that morning after they got dressed.
