What Not To Wear - I'm disgusted

So, I'm watching the new "What Not To Wear" episode last night and I am disgusted with the participant this week. She was 6 feet 1 inch tall and had really, really long hair. It hung to her butt so it must have been at least 3 feet long. We get to the part of the show where Nick (the hair stylist) is to do his magic and turn this horse's tail (I'm referring to her hair!) into something magnificent. Well, she REFUSES to let him even cut it a single iota. She goes through all this and there is NO change to her hair. Then Carmindy (the make-up artist) comes to show her how to apply her makeup for the best look possible. She makes no secret that she'll let Carmindy do whatever she wants but she has no intention of doing any make up whatsoever once she gets home - maybe a bit of lip gloss.

Now, normally, I wouldn't have a problem with the participant refusing these things because it is usually the friends and family that nominate them and they get surprised with the invitation to participate.

My problem with this girl is that SHE NOMINATED HERSELF. TLC went to a mall in Washington, DC and asked people to nominate themselves for What Not To Wear. She got into a booth and talked about how she wanted a change. She pulled her massive hair out of the bun she has to keep it in and showed it on camera to further demonstrate that she needed a change.

I can't believe that she would refuse parts of what is offered when it was she, herself that asked for it in the first place. Does she not realize how many of us out here would absolutely LOVE for Nick to get a hold of our hair and make magic with it? I'm just thoroughly disgusted about it. She claimed that "she had her beliefs and she wasn't going to go against them." What?

I've watched this show for years and this is the first time I was upset with the participant. :furious:

I didn't see it but from what you're saying they should have made her give everything back. I don't get people that have such a strong hold on their hair :confused3 .

If she had her beliefs, then why did she nominate herself? :confused3 What a waste of time for all involved.

I had to stop watching the show last night. The woman really had an attitude and I just could not continue watching. She nominated herself so you would think she would be enthusiastic about participating.

I watched last night too, and agree with you.....why bother? Its like when people on Trading Spaces flip out because they don't like how their room turns out.....well, you know the premise of the show and what is going to happen, so why go on a show like that if you don't want to fully participate and accept what happens? :confused3

Love this show. My kids signed me up for it. They never called so I must not be that bad. They hate the way I dress. My shoes really drive them crazy. Birkenstocks Rock!

I didn't see it this week but I totally agree. If she'd been nominated by others I'd understand but nominating yourself because you want a change and then virtually changing nothing kept someone who would have embraced the experience from being able to go!! I never get the hair that long thing. It NEVER fails to age someone incredibly.

I didn't like her attitude and I didn't even realize that she had nominated herself. Her hair looked ridiculous.

OMG! Me too!!! I was sooooo pissed last night watching it. I was actually at the Y working out and stayed right until they closed so I could watch the end. I could not BELIEVE that she wouldn't let them cut her hair. It looked horrible too- and she wanted a way to "style" it? Ummm.... you can't! It's the reason NO ONE who cares about how they look has hair that long!!! And I don't understand why she wanted to keep it so bad, it's not like it looked good and I'm sure it wasn't easy to take care of!

I definitely agree that since SHE nominated HERSELF the least she could do was actually do what they wanted!!! Ugh. I didn't like her at all.

But hey, at least she let them fix her eyebrows :scared1:

OMG... is this the same program as over here?

Presented by 'Tranny' and Susannah?

Can't comment on the participant (I'm in the UK so we probably get different participants... and I don't watch it) but T+S are so hugely irritating - they don't even choose the clothes!

ugh. i saw that show too! i turned it off after she wouldn't let them cut her hair. i loved how she was like, "it would be against my beliefs". what beliefs? the belief to have super long hair and never cut it and have ragged ends?

i thought it was stupid that she nominated herself. it's like when those people on trading spaces sign up and then hate their room and complain about it and cry on the show. stupid.

See, I like Trinny and Susannah, far more than the hosts of the American version of the show. At least Trinny and Susannah acknowledge that their bodies aren't perfect and show what they do to dress themselves better. Stacy and Clinton (hosts of the US version), on the other hand, act like they are perfect and have zero wrong with them. Just bugs me because of that. The thing I do like better about the US version is they show their hair and make-up being done, and give tips about it.

I didn't see the show in question, but I'm always surprised when someone won't let Nick cut their hair. This is a man who knows hair...I would let him do whatever he wanted in a heartbeat. After all, hair grows back.

It is the same concept but not the same show. We do get the UK version on BBC America.

Just watched this episode on my Tivo this morning! :furious:

What was up with her hair?? No one, I repeat no one should have hair that long! Why nominate yourself if you're not a willing participant :confused3

I'm sure they have huge lists of people totally willing to get a make-over, new clothes and a fab hair-do! Too bad she took the slot of someone who might benefit more from the experience.

Just my 2 cents worth ;)

I am so glad you posted on this -- my TIVO cut out half way through and I wondered what would happen - I hope I catch it on rerun - I would love to hate that and see what Nick ended up doing with the mop.

I would love for him to take a crack at my hair too.

TLC is a big joke these days..

Cancelling Clean Sweep and In A Fix
and doon to be cancelled is While you were out and Trading Spaces.

I totally agree...she was obnoxious, pouty, uncooperative and not funny.

I missed the part about her nominating herself (missed the first 10 minutes or so). Now it is really even worse....

I would LOVE to get $5000, a makeover and 2 great stylist for a week! Ungrateful wretch....:-)

:furious:
what a waste!!!

I would kill for a professional stylist. beutician, cosmetolegist...
:sad2:
and without the total transformation it was just boring to hear someone complain all the time

I like when S&C say what kind of clothes go for what body types but I agree that I do not have tons of $$ for a tailor either...esp when saving for WDW!!!

I am a person who will not cut my hair. I happen to think that it is much easier to work with and I have many options to style my hair, as opposed to ONE style for those who have very short hair. But I disagree that anyone who care what they look like has shorter hair. I know some very beautiful ladies who have never cut their hair, as well as some who cut their hair who don't take care of themselves.

I didn't see this particular show, so I have no idea if this was a religious decision or if it was just her personal choice, and I didn't see her attitude. She should not have nominated herself for the show because she knew she would not allow them to cut her hair.

Most people would probably say that I need to be on that show because I am the most fashion unconsious person I know. But I wouldn't because of my convictions against cutting my hair. I would like to see this show because I would like to see what they ended up doing with her hair.
