What NOT to bring!

I am a terribly packer! I am a pack-rat to the core and I try always to bring it ALL on holiday with me! Just out of curiosity, what have you found to be the most USELESS thing you packed for your last WDW trip? I mean, I generally bring too many shoes, purses, outfits...last trip for 5 days I took 3 different bottles of perfume! Please help! *LOL*

I also tend to overpack. Pack what you know either won't be available in the parks or at hotels or would be more expensive if you bought it in the parks or hotels. For instance, camera film and batteries. Just think of packing this way: the more you pack leaving from home, the less room you have for souveniours! ;) And I don't care what ANYONE says: clothes have the ability to expand when they're dirty! The same nice, neat, ironed, starched clothes that you put in your bag leaving somehow never go back in the bag the same way! :lmao:

Maybe 3 bottles of perfume is a little much. I would suggest bringing one and you'll be fine.

I always bring my Disney Guidebook-never look at it, and I don't know why it comes, cos I've read it backwards , forwards, upside down before I go-I could actually write a book, I've studied it so much. I also always bring shampoo and soap, even though theres some in the room each day so mine just comes along for a ride!

I always bring way to many "nice" clothes. I don't know what I am thinking when I am packing. We all always end up wearing comfy t-shirts the whole time.

I wouldn't bring any perfrume. You'll get eaten alive by mosquitos! :goodvibes

I just noticed what time of year you are going. Sept. is my absolute favorite!!!!! :wizard: That was the time we went for our first time too! Another waste of space was jackets. I thought that since at home (Kansas) we sometimes need jackets at night in Sept. that I should take them. DONT DO IT. It is still very much summer in FL in September! :sunny:

Have a great trip!

hand sanatizer.
sat in my mother's fanny pack the whole 16 days we were away.
i now have it and i still don't use it.

Did you read on the tip board some listed their Disney packing sheet. Most found it very helpful...

We pack the minimum.. wear sneakers down, bring an extra (incase it rains), flip flops, and one pair of sandals... Just casual clothes and one sundress.

I always bring a curling iron on vacation. Don't know why...I never use it. If I want to pretty up my hair, I can French braid it or put it in a twist. So this time, I won't bring the curling iron.

I'm a pretty good packer for vacation and don't bring stuff I don't need. This is our first trip in a few years where we're not taking our camper (which is fully stocked) so we'll see what I find I "need" when we're gone.

We packed our favorite Disney sweatshirts when we went in June.
What were we thinking :lmao: - we were in Florida - what wasted space in our suitcase and closet :rotfl:

I would not even pack a light jacket for a June vacation.

I second the no perfume. I do not even wear perfume in the summer where I live. Perfume attracts to many of the stingy variety of flying insects.

Watch the fragrance of your deodorant too :goodvibes

No nice shoes ....
If I wear a sun dress or light skirt - sandels (not flip flops - but decent looking sandels) work fine for dinner.

I not only pack a light jacket for each of us for our vacations (any time of year...middle of summer included), but also a sweatshirt and pair of jeans each (and we are a family of 4)!!! I can't help it!!! My husband just smiles at me, rolls his eyes :sad2: , and packs the suitcase...wonderful man!!

what about in the restaurants and indoor attractions? Are they cold in the summer due to the AC?

I always find the Hall Of Presidents FREEZING cold....and the Carousel of Progress...but that's no longer a worry huh...

What deoderant scents do you find attract the most bugs? I usually use lady speed stick Tropical Breeze or Raspberry Burst...(I guess the second is kin of a gimme eh *lol*)

Overpacker here!

I've been doing much better recently. I think to myself "will I really use this" before throwing it in the suitcase. If it's something I may really need but not sure, there is a Walmart or other places around to go for a quick pick up.

One big thing for me - DON'T FORGET THE GUM. No gum sold in parks so I'd be bumming for a pack.

I'm a compulsive over-packer. Just went last October and brought twice as many clothes as I needed (not knowing if it would be convenient to do laundry mid-week). I wish I had brought half the amount of clothes that I brought!

I went right as Hurricane Wilma went through, so I did need a variety of clothes (shorts, capris, and even wore long pants a couple of times). But I wish I had brought one or two of each item and just done some laundry!

Some things I learned:

Bring cheap "emergency" ponchos (the ones you buy at Target). I was so glad I had one - saved me from buying one of the more expensive WDW ones when the pre-hurricane downpour hit. Saved me at least $7. I always keep one tucked in my fanny pack or backpack now.

Bring moleskin and/or bodyglide to prevent blisters.

Bring very well broken-in shoes. Your oldest, crummiest pair of sneakers, if you're a sneaker-wearer. I got a terrible blister wearing my regular workout shoes (which I thought were really broken in). They were not!!

What I learned in October is this:
It was silly to bring scented body wash, lotion and body spray because the whole trip I smelled of sunscreen! I never used my scented stuff. I do bring soap and shampoo from home because we all use that. I wear "baby powder" scented deodorant which I haven't had a problem with as far as attracting bugs. ;) But by the time I doused myself in sunscreen it seemed ridiculous to put on anything scented. I will leave all that stuff at home in August, but maybe pack a good "after sun" lotion. I am sure I will end up showering at night, so I might want some after sun lotion before bed. Clinique makes a nice one.

Actually for me the purse was one thing I will not pack again! I just threw my wallet in the backpack and off we went. I tried to take my purse one day and it got in the way more then it was useful.

I am a BIG fan of Teva's or as an alternative..Birkenstocks. I just don't get the Croc thing!

Someone posted that purell was a waste...I totally disagree. I am a germ-o-phob...It is light, takes up almost no space and is a MUST before you put anything in or near your face. Especially when the kids (or the adults) want a churro or frozen bannana at AK! :teeth:

I also make sure to have sunblock, disposable cameras, and travel size personal items, especially hairspray and shave gel as they can be cumbersome. Then you can just leave them at the end of your trip when those dirty clothes have expanded and there is no room left in yor suitcase!
