WHAT? No Hyperspace Hoopla....

I had never even heard of the Hoopla, until I saw posts from people disappointed it is gone. And I've been to a couple SWW. Maybe it reallly wasn't all that popular and Disney knows fireworks will draw a big crowd.:confused3

I can guarantee you that it was the most popular event during SWW. People would grab spots for it 4 to 5 hours in advance...maybe you just left earlier?
The change is because Disney wants to preserve the intregrity of the SW characters now that they own them. Before it was George Lucas that wanted the SW characters to be put in a funny light (Hoopla, Robot Chicken, the SW episodes of Family Guy)

It's like a local tennis court near me...First there was one reminder note: wear the proper shoes, no glass. Then the reminders kept multiplying. Now there are five large signs posted outside the tennis court! If you scuff it, we'll charge you $200. No smoking, no pets, no kids, no off hours, no noise, no trash. If there's any evidence at all that you've been here, we will fine you $200.

Apparently they had a problem with people using the court and paying no attention whatsoever to the rules so they had to escalate.

Which is partially the reason why you have a no-show fee at the restaurants at WDW now - people were booking multiple reservations so they could put off on deciding where to eat, and then not bothering to cancel because they didn't HAVE to.

Yep so since the creator of the franchise wanted the characters to be a certain way and the vast majority of SW fans LOVED Hoopla, Disney feels they should change it? They should have expanded it, made it longer, in a better venue, etc.

I've seen the HS fireworks several times now and they are no replacement for the Hoopla and after seeing how poorly the Villains party was setup/executed/designed, I have no hope that the character curtain call will be any type of Hoopla replacement. I really hope I am wrong and Disney pulls themselves together.

We'll still be there as DH is a major SW geek and will want the celeb autographs if he doesn't have them already.

I have some faith. While I loved HyperSpace Hoopla, Symphony in the Stars really hit home as a Star Wars Geek. It was more Disney like than Hoopla was. I hope they can find a happy medium between Disney's perceived acceptable tongue-in-cheek humor and nostalgia for the character curtain call.

Also, I was at the Last Tour to Endor, and wish they would bring back Raiders of the Lost Jedi Temple of Doom. THAT was a show to plan a vacation around!

My DH was there too and still talks up that show to anyone who will listen! LOL

I dunno, I have doubts that Disney thought Hoopla was somehow besmirching their $3B franchise. There's always been room for a little satire. I think it might just be that the fireworks symphony thing they did last May 4 was really popular and they wanted to do that instead. It doesn't hurt to change it up. I watched some videos of Hoopla, and while I thought it was fun, it wasn't all that to me. I'd probably watch it, but I wouldn't save a spot hours in advance.

Yeah I don't buy that excuse either :confused3
