They've just made a deal to keep the Empire out of here forever. What is Disney thinking? Discuss

They are thinking that so long as attendance keeps going up, they can keep raising prices and cutting services to increase their profit margin. Having the characters at Hoopla cost money.

Of course, the problem in any business is that once a decline starts it always takes longer and costs more to turn it back around than they initially thought. And sometimes the business has lost so much goodwill by then that they can never turn it around.

As Disney fans it hurts us every time we lose something and it is not replaced. But a corporation does not exist to please us; it exists to provider return on investment for shareholders. See paragraph 1.

It just disappoints me so much. My DS12 and I LOVED it. So much fun. We were planning on heading down for it this year. I just bagged the trip as that was our reason to go. Had saved up for it as a surprise. Darn

Actually it's been said that now that Disney owns the franchise, and will be releasing new movies, they are reluctant to continue making fun of it in that fashion. There will be a replacement - a Character Curtain Call followed by a fireworks show.

The replacement show might be equally as fun, if different.

Hm, I was hoping to hear they'd decided to move it to the Indy or LMA theater instead :(. It's a massive cluster now.

No chance the replacement is better. The best part of the Hoopla WAS that it poked fun at Star Wars. The Emperor as LL Cool J...come on that's awesome

I loved the fun they had. I'd only seen it a couple of times but I will miss it when we go during Star Wars Weekend time frames.

But I've no doubt it's a cost cutting measure since they are adding fireworks this year.

I agree - I don't think it is a cost savings either, just dancers in costume, plus the cost of choreographing the show. Every year it was getting better and better. I just bought our airfare over the weekend for May, and then saw this and had to break the news to my DS11 this morning. It's his favorite part of the weekend. :sad1:

Feeling really annoyed! Universal is calling my name. Constant price increases, everything new catering to little princesses, FP+ and now this! My breaking point is nearing. We went in a slow time a few weeks ago and waited nearly 30minutes in fastpass lines and standbys were at 90 and 115. Touring plans had it at a 6! This is just getting ridiculous.

I believe some of it had to do with the fact that many people felt that it had gotten too "risque" over the last few years, and has evolved into something very "Un-Disney"

Same here....:(

I read a post over on another SWW thread that summed it up well. In the same way you will never go into magic kingdom and see the princesses dancing to single ladies up on a stage, disney no longer wants their newly acquired Star Wars characters to be seen as a joke either. It's just not the way disney portrays their characters. Even though I thought it was a funny show, I understand why they are not doing it anymore. I don't think it's disney trying to hurt anyone's feelings lol

I don't think Disney is trying to hurt anyone either but, at least for a couple folks in this thread, it would appear that the Hyperspace Hoopla was the only thing that made a trip to Disney during the Star Wars Weekend worthwhile. Without that, it's just not fun.

I can't personally imagine planning an entire vacation around seeing a single show, but people have done stranger things.

It makes me wonder if anyone's cancelled their trip over Push getting canned...?

This is how I felt about it. I was looking into a SWW trip this year, and I love Star Wars, but after seeing what is actually offered, if you aren't into merchandise and autogrphs, the parade and Hypespace Hoopla were the only things really there. Hoopla lood fun, but just not enough to make a trip. I ended up going earlier in May for lower crowds and F&G.

We went during a Star Wars weekend... and we carefully avoided Hollywood Studios all three days! :rotfl2: I love Star Wars, but SWW is basically just a convention (which is awesome if that's what you're looking for).

The other parks were quite manageable, crowd wise. Oh, and we even got a couple Star Wars themed pics in, since they started putting up the decor the day before. I have a great shot of myself in carbonite! :thumbsup2

I don't know about that, but apparently, over MLK jr Weekend, lots of folks waiting in a FIVE/SIX hour line to see the new ice princesses!!!!!! In my mind, spend most of the day in line to see two characters pretty much constitutes wasting, I mean planning, their entire day around something even less impressive than a show.

I don't think I'd cancel a trip to WDW over one show being cancelled (unless I was personally like a paid performer in the show), seeing one character, or any one attraction being closed, but that's me.

I may, on the other hand cancel a visit if the prices got too high, and Disney gets too carried away with things like the current no-show dining penalty. I'm not so much worried about being a no show as I simply find it distasteful to have to even think about a penalty fee.

It's like a local tennis court near me...First there was one reminder note: wear the proper shoes, no glass. Then the reminders kept multiplying. Now there are five large signs posted outside the tennis court! If you scuff it, we'll charge you $200. No smoking, no pets, no kids, no off hours, no noise, no trash. If there's any evidence at all that you've been here, we will fine you $200.

So NOBODY uses it. What's the point? In my mind, it would be better to have a well used court with a few scuff marks with a few cigarette butts, a little dog poop (nearby), and a few happy kids running around, than a giant space waster.

I agree, Disney does have to tread carefully...or they too will become the land of naysayers.

I agree- I'm a big Star Wars fan and am hoping they'll replace it with a less satirical entertainment option!

Oh yay Star wars Fireworks!!!!!!!!!!!! So excited!!!! :thumbsup2 :cheer2: We never understood all the hoopla over the Hoopla, just didn't care for it.

I had never even heard of the Hoopla, until I saw posts from people disappointed it is gone. And I've been to a couple SWW. Maybe it reallly wasn't all that popular and Disney knows fireworks will draw a big crowd.:confused3
