What Nintendo DS games for 5/6 yr old girl?

I just got a Nintendo DS for my (just) 6 year old daughter. One of her friends has it and she loves it. We never really have done any kinds of video games before. My daughter said the friend had a fishing game on hers and she liked that. What do you recommend as a 1st game for my daughter? TIA

The Dogz or Hamsterz games are cute - they get to take choose puppies or hamsters and take care of them. DD also liked PetVet. (can you sense an animal theme here?)

I asked my daughter, who just turned 9, what she thought. She has had her ds a few years. She said Nintendogs. They have them for different breeds. (dalmations, labs, etc). I think they are similar to Dogz or Hamsterz.

I vote Dogz also!!!! easy to use, cute, I think there is also Catz & Horsez

Cheryl, My suggestion would have been the same- The nintendogs, nintendcats, or nintendhamsters, I think they also have horses now- They get to take care of the pet, teach tricks, put inshows, and decorate their pets "space" also choose outfits for their pet- This is great especially if a family pet may be something always thought of or even if you already have one- The computer lets the kids know when the pet needs certain things and, of course what can happen when the pet doesn't get i.e. a bath, (puppy will scratch like fleas are on them and actually look filthy)playtime (my DD turned hers on after not playing for awhile and her puppy had made a mess of the room w/ stuff pulled out and thrown around the floor) etc
Another good game is the Cooking one for a young girl- starts with basic skills but teaches them measurements and such- could be good to get her to learn those things before 3rd grade- Any Mario type game just because the different worlds and accomplishments are fairly easy on the first few levels as they play and get more complex as the game goes so it teaches them to get better... Barbie or Disney Princess game where the girls play virtual dress up and such- Good Luck on your choices!

She's getting really into Hannah Montana these days what is that game? Seems like everyone is for the pet games so they must be good!

I just got DN (13) a Disney one that is similar to the Petz games, but you take care of 4 Disney chara (She love Stitch, and it had Stitch). It is a little 'young' for her, but she seems to love caring for stitch.

I found it at Target on sale (markdown) for 19.99 (org 29.99!!!) Costco had it for 24.99

My dds (7 & 8) just got nintendos for their b-days. The only games they have so far is nintendogs, which they really like.

Last week, Amazon had a deal thru Bill Me Later. Buy $50 of video games (games & units), pay thru Bill Me Later and save $10. They also had a $100/$20 deal. I was able to get my dd her DS Lite and a nintendogs game for $138 plus free shipping!

Cooking Mama or any of the Mario games - though I'd probably recommend Princess Peach first. My daughter did not like either the High School Musical game or the Hannah Montana game.

My dd has a lot of games, but the Petz & Imagine lines get played with the most recently(Catz, Imagine Dog Fashion Show, Imagine Rock Star). Also she still plays with Cooking Mama after a year.

My just-turned-seven year old loves Purr Pals, Animal Crossing Wild World (the whole family likes that one), My Sims, and Charlotte's Web. She sometimes plays her brothers Mario variations, but she doesn't like those as much - she prefers the slower paced games. Oh - almost forgot -she really likes Brain Age and Big Brain Academy. There are things in those she really can't do - but she does like them.

Another vote for Nintendogs! My kids love them, but especially my 7 year old dd. She also enjoys playing the classic Gameboy SP Super Mario Bros. 3 (the bigger cartridges). She is a fan of the Narnia games as well.

My 7 yo & almost 5 yo won't take Super Mario Bros out of their DS's.

My dd got one first in July & we got her that, some pet game & Yoshi's Island.

Then my ds got one about a month ago & I didn't get him SMB so that weekend we went to 2 Walmarts to find it & that is all they play. I cringed at the price but it is well worth it to them (and dh & me since we grew up with that game).

DD turns 7 today. She really likes the Build-A-Bear game.

She also has Disney Princess Magical Jewels which was her first game and pretty easy. It seems repetitive to me, but she played it for hours.

She plays parts of my Brain Age 2 and likes my Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games. She got Petz Catz 2 for her birthday but hasn't done a lot of it yet.

DD9 has lots of Game Boy Games like the Barbie ones or Enchanted, and I have to say a lot of those take quite a bit of figuring out and DD7 doesn't have the patience for them. Right now DD9 is stuck on Enchanted because she can't figure out how to drop a rock on something once she's picked it up?

My neice is 7 and has had hers for a few years. Her favorite is Princess Peach. Of course as girly as she is she still likes to play my boys' ds games...Transformers, Spiderman, Mario Kart, Meet the Robinsons, CARS, Happy Feet...

Thanks everyone for the replies, I think I start her with one of the pet games, hamsterz or dogz and then she can choose others later, I just want to give her one game with the unit or whats the point!
