What? (New to me) wording on coupons & coupon discussion

I think what we might be seeing is the manufacturers and retailers becoming more aware.

Example -

Two weeks ago I emailed Kroger, one of the stores shopped at on the "Extreme Coupon" show, for their coupon policy. Question being, indirectly, can I shop like those folks did and buy large quantities of items.

The response came this morning and, in short, the answer is no. Here are snips from that email -

*There is a limit two (2) identical coupons per item, per shopping trip.

*One shopping trip = 24 hours

*The store manager has the right to accept, decline or limit the quantity of coupons or items used or purchased in a single transaction, by a single customer, or in a single day.

That "Extreme" Couponer show was staged, such a joke and anyone who coupons knows that you could shop like that at Kroger! My store never has any of the deals in stock, the "qualifying items" for the Buy 4, Get $4 off promos are never marked correctly and they would NEVER let someone buy that many of the same item & use a stack of the same coupons. My store gets annoyed if you have ANY coupons, let alone a pile of a few hundred.

I agree, that couponing show irritated me! I shop at Kroger all the time because they double the $1 off coupons, but they have a limit of 2 identical items at a time. I think that is fair, though, it isn't right for one person to buy out the store. I stock up all the time, but those people on the show were just GREEDY with buying all that stuff they didn't need and would never use up before it goes bad. Those are the ones who ruin it for the rest of us!!

I still want to know how the heck the one person got Pepsi coupons, though! I am a diet Pepsi addict and I've never seen a coupon for it, unless it's if you buy chips or something with it.

Now on the other board they say that to use more than 4 like coupons, referencing the limits on P&G coupons, is to make multiple transactions. Kroger only lets you use 2 like coupons in a shopping trip and a trip is every 24 hours. So can you get in line multiple times?

Yesterday we received a coupon for free oatmeal at McDonald's. DS wanted a cinnamon melt and it was attached to that. The coupon is good for a future visit and it clearly defines a future visit as 2+ hours from initial visit. So even at McD's, at least with that coupon, you can't just get back in line.

I'm not sure why you received that response, but it's not accurate for *all* Kroger stores.

I live in the Mid-Atlantic region. We have unlimited double coupons everyday, up to .50c. Go to the Kroger website and put in zip 45750 (Marietta, OH) and you'll see a box at the bottom of the ad. Yep, unlimited coupons. All the stores have signs advertising it, too.

I think it's a region by region thing with Kroger.

I coupon... not like the people in those shows (the largest stockpile I have is diapers/wipes ) but I get a lot for free or dirt cheap... I do only buy what we will go through in a reasonable amount of time, though. My "stockpile" fits within my kitchen (even have some empty cabinets).

Super bowl rebate or a bad batch. I've gotten coupons when I had some really gross soda and emailed them and in the last few years they changed the super bowl rebate from a check to coupons for chips and soda.

I just hope that the TLC special did not ruin coupon use for the rest of us.

My mom used and taught me how to use coupons when I was a teen:lovestruc. That was way back when the coupons had no experiation date. I still have a few I think one is for like .12 or something. Now I am trying to teach my DD's how to use coupons. I have been using coupons all my life, I could not imagine going to the grocery store with out them.

Maybe it's an attempt to stop the extreme couponers like on the show. Essentially the people who are buying all of the stores products and paying almost nothing for them.

As a regulatory consultant I can tell you the federal government is beginning to take a more active role in couponing, creating new and updating regulations. The new second barcodes(GS1) on coupons are an example of that regulating on the manufacturers/retailers side. They also prosecuted more coupon fraud last year then ever, so the feds are starting to take notice.
