What new theme would you pick for a new WDW resort?

Someone on another discussion board brought up an idea. If WDW were to make a new resort, it would be neat if it were based on the Haunted Mansion.

I love this idea, as my birthday is Halloween, so I would definitely stay at a HM themed resort. I think a ToT themed resort would be neat too.

What other ideas can you think of for a new resort, maybe based on a ride?

A Venicetian (sp?) resort with working canals would be nice. A moderate resort added to the FT Wilderness/WL area with an Adirondack theme would work for me too.

Something ULTRA high end. Small (under 250 rooms) and five star, with top notch restaurants and services.

I think Tower of Terror or Haunted Mansion theme that is low end (like AKL or WL) deluxe would be great. My DH votes for something similiar to House of the Seven Gables or ancient Roman or Egypt.

I also like the idea of something beyond a deluxe. Something in the MK are maybe with concierge service, a small but exotic themed pool, padded lounges by the pool, pool attendants, great linens-something similar or better than a Ritz Carlton.

Also, Mickey and Minnie cottages. I would LOVE this.

Or something water/underwater/under sea themed-something with fish tank lined hallways, etc.

I would agree with the 5 star resort idea, though I'd go more for a "Shutters On the Beach" type of place than a Ritz. In fact, if you could just move Shutters from Santa Monica to Bay Lake next to the CR (where the Persian was supposed to go), it would be perfect. It would need a very nice pool, though no specific theme would be required.

Another idea would be Disney's Outback. It would be an Animal Kingdom Resort Area resort on the same scale as AKL or WL. The resort would feature Outback views with kangaroos, Wallabees, Cassowary, and other creatures of the outback. The resort would feature a salt water aquarium that divided the theme pool from the quiet pool. The whole area would be known as the Great Barrier Reef. It would be the first Disney pool to be situated in front of the resort, therefore eliminating standard views, and allowing for only animal and pool views. A large bridge would connect arriving guests over the pool to the main lobby area. Unlike the AKL, this resort would feature many buildings (think Poly) with protected walkways connecting each one.

i think a Toon Town hotel would be cool. I also think it would be interesting to see a hotel themed with villians.

ducklite, I really like your idea. I know Disney is trying to get that 5 star status for the GF but a nice small luxury boutique hotel would be fabulous!

Like the toontown idea:smooth:
What about a deluxe royal/castle/princess/prince themed resort ?
The pool could go all the way around it like a moat, and it could have villas round the main hotel part like a real castle.:Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

LOVE that idea!!!

I would LOVE to see some sort of underwater theme... whether the hotel itself be underwater somehow or just appear to be. Okay, okay... I know its farfetched but if anyone can do it, Disney can!!!

I like the idea of an Egyptian hotel. Also, a jungle theme would be cool. They definately should make it another moderate hotel. When I was down there in May someone told me they were building a new Time Share hotel. We could see the construction from Wolfgang Puck's restaurant. It seems like that is the way they are trying to go with all those Vacation Club desks everywhere.

I've always imagined a castle themed resort (I'm going to post a new thread about this idea:D )

Also, after taking a cruise, I think a resort replicated like a cruise liner both inside and out would be awesome:Pinkbounc

I love the Venice idea that someone brought up. Either that or one based on the haunted mansion or Pirates of the caribbean. I really dont care about the 5 stars stuff. That just doesnt sound like Walts vision to me. Give me a good, clean, well themed hotel that just oozes fun at Disney.

I agree a venetian theme, with canals, would be nice but it might look too much like Portofinio Bay.

Disney likes DVC, hotels are self-financing.

Ducklite--I agree a true 5* would be a good addition but I think Disney believes GF main building concierage fills that market. I've heard (not from a good source) that GF has too many non-guests wandering through the hotel (monorail, weddings etc) to qualify as a real 5* hotel.

Disney has had to discount rooms for the past few years. I don't think they are rushing to build a new resort.

I think there might be demand for a value suite hotel. Think allstars 50% larger with a sofa bed and mini-kitchen (sink, microwave, refrig and coffee maker). Look at all the posters complaining about rooms not big enough for larger familes, using ice chests to keep milk cold etc. Take care of people who don't want to pay for DVC.

This probably wouldn't be possible, but I wish they had room behind each of the countries in WS to have a small, intimate resort.

I think they need another moderate resort too. Right now they only have 4 and of the 4 only 3 are open.

I did a quick tally and this is how many rooms each category has at the present time.

Value (not counting Pop Century)
5760 rooms
with Pop Century
11,520 rooms

Moderate (not counting POFQ - didn't show # of rooms)
6127 rooms

Deluxe (not counting home away from home)
5463

Home Away from Home (Ft Wilderness Villas)
407

DVC (not counting Old Key West - couldn't find room count)
724

If you combine Deluxe, HAFH, DVC - 6594 rooms total

I did not include campsites.

BC and BCV are actually behind some of the countries in WS.

I think that a budget property sort of one-step-up-from-a-hostel and geared for large families would be very popular. Perhaps built near FW, with a summer-camp in old Florida theme. (Camping requires equipment; this would be more for folks who don't bring their own vehicles.) I'm envisioning long, low, wood-sided buildings with wide overhangs and metal roofs, with the doors opening onto the verandas that circle the whole building. Lots of live oaks.

The units would be built more like large dorm rooms than standard hotel rooms, but would have baths ensuite, not down the hall. Large, plain rooms (maximum capacity ~6) without a lot of interior theming, but with fridges and microwaves in-room.
Bunk beds, twins; maybe doubles but no kings. This setup would also be very popular with younger student groups, I think. The pool/play area should be the central value feature; the point to summer camp is playing in the great outdoors, after all.

I think a World Showcase resort would be cool. A moderate or Deluxe.
South America,Europe,Asia,Orient, theming, for example.
They could have a full service restaurant that serves authentic foods of these countries. The menu would change daily.
Music could be piped throughout the resort. Displays of culture artifacts and the languages spoken.
In the Kid's Activity center, kids could learn how to make things from that country (sorta like kidcot).
They could incorporate a Bricks around the Showcase resort, with an emblem inplemented in the brick of the country you are from. The snack bars could feature different colas (as in the Artic station at Epcot).
On the ceiling or walls, have images of It's a Small World, with the children wearing signature costumes and clothing.
