Well, my nationality is American.

My heritage is German, Scottish, Native American (Miami Nation), and whatever else may be mixed in there!

I was going to post the same thing about nationality vs. ethnicity. I always get asked "what nationality are you?" because of my name. When I answer American, they almost always say "no, seriously" and I answer, yes, I'm American. They say no, what country are your ancestors from. I say oh, that's another question entirely!

What really irks me is when I tell people my name (crystal) and people say "no, what's your REAL name?" or "is that your real name?" Yes, that's my birth name, dummy - I'm 4th generation American!

I'm about ⅔ Swiss-German and ⅓ Irish.

Edit: We didn't find out about the Irish element until recently, when my mom and I started researching our ancestry after losing several relatives over the past year. In doing so, we found out that our Irish relatives lived in a part of St. Louis called "Kerry Patch" (so named because many of them came from County Kerry, apparently), and according to a St. L. tourism guide published around that time, the chief amusements of the residents of the area involved "punching out each others' eyes."

Father's side - virtually 100% English. Paternal grandmother and grandfather were cousins (second).

Mother's side - some from Scotland, a teeny bit of French, and a lot of Native American (my maternal relatives all qualified as minorities). My maternal grandmother was Scottish and my maternal grandfather was mostly Native American. My aunts and all of my cousins are dark, dark hair, dark eyes, etc.
My poor mother was in shock when I came along with white blonde hair, very fair with blue eyes.

That's because the Native American genes are usually passed down thru the males in the family, not females.
