What Nationalities are represented in your area?

During a PTA meeting last year we were told that there were 79 different dialects in my area. Coming from NY, where I THOUGHT we had major diversity... it has nothing on Chamblee, Georgia!

My little suburban (one hour from NYC) town was always Italian and Jewish, plus a little sprinkling of Scandinavian and German. Nowdays I notice a larger Asian presence along with Hispanic. The larger area in general is definately having a larger Hispanic influx.

Difinite mish-mash here.......But I'd say most are white, Mexican, Asian and Middle Eastern. Much more diverse than when I was growing up. To quote Martha.... It's a good thing!! :grouphug:

OK, so I quoted myself!! .........But I realized, when I woke up today, that I'm living in a mini Epcot!! Our neighbors on one side are Japanese and the ones on the other side are from Morocco!!!!!! Two of my favorite pavilions!!! :rotfl:

I notice a lot of business with different signs up: Russian, Chinese, Greek, Arab, Polish.

I used to live in Atlanta, but am sooooo happy to be back in NYC. I came back for the diversity.

Lots of people here come from a Polish background. More than a single nationality standing out, seems like there is a large Democratic Catholic community. I guess I notice it so much because I am neither Catholic or a Democrat...not that there's anything wrong with that. ;)

When I was growing up on Long Island (in the late 70's early 80's) seemed like everyone was Jewish and Republican.

DC has a very diverse population, especially since it hosts so many embassies. As for immigrants, we have a lot of Salvadorans, Brazilians, Ethiopians, Afghans. My apartment building is very diverse; there are a lot of Indians and Arabs living here.

Minnesota used to be the land of Noreweigans, Swedes and Germans. In the 70's and early 80's we had a lrge influx of Hmong (Laos) and Vietnamese. Currently we are getting many Somalian and Mexican people.

I am very glad to see an increase in diversity here. We needed it. No offense to Scandinavians (I'm one of them) but their food is terrible. :rotfl2:

It is the same thing over here in our area of Wisconsin, with the exception of Somalia.

Latino culture-you name, we've got it... from Puerto Rican to Mexican, Guatalmalan, Chile, Portugal
African -Ghana, South African, Sierra Leone, Ivory Coast, etc.
Asian-Chinese, Filipino, Thai, Japanese, Singapore
Indian subcontinent-India (North and south India), Pakistan
Middle Eastern-Egyptian, Iranian, Isreali, etc.
Large amount of Polish, German, Croatian as well.

Large Jewish population as well.

In fact Caucasian born in American is a minority here!

After getting back from WDW in January, I was burning all of the vacation video onto DVD and was in the midst of a TON of Off Kilter, so I'd been listening to bagpipes for something like 4 hours. While doing that, I opened the front door to check the mail and was immediately hit with loud mariachi music from my Mexican neighbors. I actually said, "My God, I'm still at Epcot!" :lmao:

As for diversity here, my individual apartment building is home to an Indian family, a couple of Middle Eastern families, the aforementioned Mexicans, and a family from Pakistan.

My area is very diverse. The largest groups of people besides Italian are African, Indian and I think either Turkish or Albanian. :confused3

It used to be a big Italian and Irish population here..now it is Filipino(actually Wikipedia says our town ios "Little Manila" LOL), Hispanic, and the aforementioned Irish and Italian. Oh and my area of town has a lot of Orthodox Jews because there was a synagogue built here a few years ago.
My daughter's K class is pretty much 1/2 Filipino, 1/4 white and a 1/4 Hispanic. There is also one African American girl.
It's a great area!

I live in NM, need I say more??? ;)

Caucasian is the definite minority, there are very few african americans. Here is probably 90% Mexican, a few other hispanic, Native American, or a mix of those 3.
